Gold exploration commences in South Sudan state

September 13, 2016 (TORIT) – Gold exploration has started in Namorunyang, one South Sudan’s newly-created states, officials told Sudan Tribune Tuesday.

New Kush company, an indigenous entity, is undertaking the initiative that seeks to help improve local mining in the region.

Clement Lokwar, New Kush employee, said they are identifying areas with rich gold at Nanakanak village in Kapoeta South county.

“We are on the ground and communities are cooperating with us and share every idea on areas which we can explore”, he said.

The project, Lokwar said, will also benefit the community in terms of service delivery as well as the provision of employment opportunities.

“These company is here to explore gold and also to help the community so as to give chances to generate some money for them to benefit as we employee them”, said Lokwar.

According to New Kush company, 40% of what the company explores will be given back to the community while the rest of what they realize will be shared between the company and the new state.

Meanwhile area residents vowed to willingly cooperate with investors whose initiatives benefit the area population.

Authorities, however, appealed to the population to maintain stable security in the state so as to encourage more investors in the region.
