Poland, Sudan to engage in security and military cooperation

March 20, 2016 (KHARTOUM) - The Polish minister of defence Antoni Macierewicz has expressed his country’s desire and readiness to coordinate with Sudan in security and military issues.

Macierewicz, who met Sudan’s foreign minister Ibrahim Ghandour in Warsaw on Saturday, pointed to Sudan’s regional importance, expressing his country’s readiness for security and military cooperation with the east African nation.

According to the official news agency SUNA Ghandour briefed the Polish minister on the Sudanese experience in establishing the joint border control force with Chad, pointing to the possibility of forming similar forces with Ethiopia and Libya.

He also stressed importance for coordination between the two nations in the fields of training, technology and civil and military industry, pointing to the regional conditions and in particular the situation in South Sudan and Libya.

The Sudanese top diplomat has extended the invitation to Macierewicz to visit Sudan in the near future.

Ghandour, who concluded a two-day visit to Poland Saturday, is the first Sudanese foreign minister to visit Warsaw since more than forty years.

VISITNG THE UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW

Meanwhile, Ghandour delivered a lecture at the University of Warsaw on the recent developments in Sudan and the region in the presence of the university professors and students.

He pointed to the importance of the scientific research in the continued development besides offering the necessary studies to resolve the social and economic problems.
Following the lecture, Ghandour was briefed on the outcome of the archaeological research conducted by the University of Warsaw in Sudan’s northern area of Faras.

He also discussed with the archaeologists at the university the findings of their researches in Sudan and visited Faras hall at Poland’s national museum.
