Warrap students in Uganda welcome union leader

April 11, 2015 (KAMPALA) – Warrap state university and college students in Uganda have welcomed the nomination of Makuei Aguer Adel as president for the South Sudanese students union.

At a welcoming ceremony last week Warrap students honoured Adel for his win in last December’s students union leadership elections.

The event was chaired by South Sudanese businessman Ayii Duang Ayii and national director of passport and immigration Maj.Gen Augustino Madut Parek among other officials from Warrap state.

Officials said Adel’s nomination is a sign of unity among students in
Kampala, particularly in the South Sudanese body.

Adel has vowed to work to promote unity among all students regardless of their tribal ethnicity or background.

“The union shall partially work together by promoting love among the South Sudanese in order to bring peace in the country,” he told students last week.

In a speech at last week’s ceremony, Parek called on students to unite and work for the nation’s progress and development, cautioning students to avoid looking to their state as the sole source of their identity.

Former chairman of the electoral commission of Warrap state students in
Uganda, Garang Deng Majok, who was an observer at last week’s welcoming ceremony, urged South Sudanese to take collective pride in their nation and work towards peace and stability.
