Dinka Bor attack on Murle community leaves dozens dead, says Pibor commissioner

February 8, 2012 (JUBA) – In South Sudan’s Jonglei State the commissioner of Pibor, Brigadier General Joshua Konyi, has accused the neighbouring Dinka Bor community of attacking one of the payams [districts] in his County, leaving dozens dead or wounded.

The Commissioner told Sudan Tribune from his county headquarters in Pibor town on Wednesday that the attack occurred on Tuesday in a place called Manyibol of Gumruk district, Pibor County.

He said the attack, which was carried out by about two thousand armed youth from Dinka Bor community, occurred in the morning at 6am and ended at 2pm when the attackers were repelled.

Konyi said nine people were killed dead and eleven others wounded from the Murle community. He did not know how many were killed on the side of the attackers.

Jonglei state has been experiencing inter-communal violence involving the three communities of Lou-Nuer, Dinka and Murle.

The UN says that 140,000 people have been effected by violence between the three groups in the last two months.

South Sudan’s President has vowed to start another disarmament campaign to try and end the cycle of conflict. There have been many attempts to take small arms away from the civilian population since South Sudan gained self-rule in 2005.

After years of civil war many are reticent to give up their weapons as they do not trust the army to provide security needed to protect their communities and livestock.

When over 6,000 armed members of the Luo Nuer tribe attacked Pibor County in December and January, Konyi said that over 3,000 people had died in the clashes. This number has since been dismissed by the UN but no independent figures have been provided.

Selling of human beings is an international crime and you must be punished for that by UN and neighboring communities. Daniel, you mentioned earlier that Bor community is well educated.I do agree with you 100%;but could you tell me what benifit did education bring to you personally?!I could see non. The most illiterate & uneducated person in Sudan could be full of wisdom, prudence & civilization much more than you.How could an educated & presumably civilized person could be " full" with such ratial & ethenic hate?

You are the most liar, hypocrite and denial thief in this forum, do I accuse you of being illiterate and uneducated even though I know these traits of yours are precisely signs of illiterate and uneducated man. You are randomly killing people in Blue Nile, Nuba and Darfur

I am sick of losing children, women and the elderly. I wish all these criminals be cleaned up for peace and prosperity to flourish in South Sudan. So please, stop laughing at deaths. Your concerns are suspicious.

Daniel, what is the difference between Nuba, Darfur, Dinka, Nuer, American, Australian, Jalaba, Arabs or Murle? They are all human beings, with 2 legs, 1 head, 2 ears & eyes and red blood! They all deserve life and dignity to be respected. Genocide & collective punishment are crime against humanity. You are calling for them Mr. civilized & educated man!

Therefore, the game now is to fight young Murle in the bushes and forests they make their home. These Murle youth must be caught and brought to justice. No exception, no rest until Murle youth are silent in Jonglei.

Does this retaliatory confrontation among communities amount to any permanent solution to the problem? Lets all be peace lovers because if this situation continues, there is no safe heave,n any time you can be the victim.

The capture of 372 young women and girls a year during the period of 1818 to 1905 would remove 32,625 productive females from the Central Dinka and Anyuak population and thus eventually decrease that population by 110,915 individuals. The capture of 125 boys a year over the same period would decrease the Central Dinka and Anyuak population by an additional 5,250 persons.

In sum, the proposed rate of capture would effectively transfer 116,165 persons from Central Dinka and Anyuak population to that of the Nuer.

Persons of the Dinka decent form probably at least half the population of most [Nuer] sub-tribes. These Dinka are either children of captives or immigrants who have been brought up as Nuer, or are themselves captives and immigrants who are residing permanently among Nuer. They are “Jaang-Nath,” “Dinka-Nuer,” and, it is said, “caa Naath,” “they have become Nuer.”

Are you asking me, "what the Nuer and Dinka fighting for?"
Well, I thought you should know better than that. The Nuer want to evict Jaang/Slaves from greater Upper Nile or assimilate them into Nuer community and declare it as Nuer Empire. The Nuer greedy of more lands is beyond your imagination. The Anyuak and Burun know this very well. The Nuer want to rename Mading Bor as Ngundeng City

The Anyuak have voiced so much against the Nuer for obvious reasons. The main reason being that the Nuer are hungry for Anyuak land and are not satisfied with what they took already through the long history. The Nuer call the Anyuak resistance hatred.
