SPLM slams VP Taha’s visit to South Kordofan

April 18, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in north Sudan has criticized the visit of the country’s vice-president Ali Osman Mohamad Taha to South Kordofan State, accusing him of harnessing state-resources to support his party’s candidate in gubernatorial elections there.

SPLM-N secretary-general Yasir Arman (AFP)

Vice-President Taha on Monday visited the central state of South Kordofan, where electoral campaigns for long-delayed gubernatorial and legislative elections are already underway ahead of the voting on May 5, and inaugurated a number of development projects.

Flanked by his ruling National Congress Party’s incumbent candidate in gubernatorial elections, Ahmad Harun, Taha addressed a public rally in the state’s town of Abu Jibiha, renewing his government’s commitment to implement development projects in the state.

Harun, who is sought by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes allegedly committed during a harsh government-counterinsurgency campaign in the western Sudan region of Darfur, addressed the rally and echoed his boss’ pledges to carry out development projects in the grossly-underdeveloped state.

But Yasir Arman, the secretary-general of the SPLM North-Sudan said that Taha’s inauguration of development projects during electoral campaigns was "a clear violation" of the elections law.

In a press release received by Sudan Tribune, Arman criticized the National Elections Commission, the body organizing the vote, for what he termed as its silence in the face of the involvement of state media in the electoral campaign of Harun, citing article number 96 of the national elections act which outlaws the use of state-resources in electoral campaigns.

Gubernatorial and legislative elections in South Kordofan, which lie on the fault line between north and south Sudan, were delayed as the country held countrywide elections in April 2010 due to disagreements over census results and delimitation of geographic constituencies.

Incidents of violence occurred last week when El-feid village in the state was attacked by militiamen who killed at least 17 people and burned a number of houses. The SPLM’s candidate in gubernatorial elections, Abdul Aziz Adam Al-Hilu, accused the paramilitary Popular Defense Forces of carrying out the attack at the behest of Harun.

Al-Hilu said that the NCP was trying to scuttle the elections because it knows that its candidate Harun stands no chance of success.

However, the NCP blamed forces loyal to Al-Hilu of instigating the incidents, saying it had intelligence substantiating its claims.

The NCP’s official Haj Magid Siwar said this week that his party might split South Kordofan State and reinstate West Kordofan State which was abolished following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) which ended decades of civil wars between north and south Sudan in 2005.

Under the CPA, South Kordofan is meant to hold a so-called popular consultation to decide whether the agreement has met the aspiration of the state’s people and resolve any pending issues related to its implementation.

    To SPLM north sector,

I think jonobean in SPLM have given you a big bullshit, they used you guys as "useful idiot" till they achieved their strategic goal which is separating south from north!

You believed them when they said we gonna build new sudan??!! .. what a joke?!!! a person like Yasir Arman cannot and will not be able to live in the south for a good reason that he is not a southerner and that’s enough!

We will take care of Mr. Arman and we will use our methodolgy to make him fully respect north and northerners people choices and cut his ties with those liars people who lied to him and continue to lie to him everyday but money uneasy to resist among weak people sometime!

If you need to know about "new Sudan" theory then look at the south and what is going on of war, rebellion, corruption, tribalism, discrimination, mismanagement, etc is exactly new Sudan image because SPLM implemented there.

Emerging failed state is under way and it is going to be worst than its neighbor Congo state which is another example of "failed state" in the region!

Once again, SPLM should pull its nose out of our internal issues because it is no longer their business, it is better for them to concentarte on how to minimize (not to prevent because it is too late) the catastrophe and disaster that for sure will occur in the south because of the coming "failed state"!

      Jalaby,

Leave south alone, northerns think they know more than southerns. Why are you crying? South has already separated if south is failed or not this is not your business, the truth is it will not be a failed state just see how investors and foreign countries representatives including your close allay China are pouring into south. Sudan has been ranked as a failed stated and that was northern Sudan. South is yet to be a full state in July wait and see your bad wishes will end in north.

        Lamija,

Before you tell us to leave south alone you have to tell SPLM and other jonobean to leave north alone and not to interfere in south Kordofan or Blue Nile issue because they are part of the north and not south!

Would you accept if north interfere in North Bahr Alghazal election and support one candidate over the other?

Why should we wait until july and judge whether the south is failed state or not? it is from now failed state and what is going on in the south support it. It is not my wish but facts on the table!

If Sudan was a failed state that because of the south issue problem and now we amputated that part and we will be good now on.

I don’t really care whether the south is failed state or not but I do care about those southerners who give themselves the right to interfere in north issue as if they have dual citizenship and never accept north to intefere in south issue!

Wake up guys the time of your power and veto in the north has overed, south is south and north is north and those southerners in the north should go home, you (southerners in the north) voted for not being second class citizen in the north then why are still living in the north and continue be treated 2nd class citizen, what are you waiting for then?!

Jalaby who told you that southern Sudan is a fail state?. You are naive if you really believed what people told. If I make advance research now I will find out that you are black Muslim. just remain slave there in North until the judgment day. If southerners managed to slay Arabs during hardship, do you think they will fail?. Just enjoy your slavery and be a yes man for the rest of your life in order to pleased your step father Omar Bashir. During time of struggle we were lacking deadly weapons and we have resisted you compare to present day. What do you think will make us fail?. Now we give up infantry troops system of 19th century ,but we are ready to use flying machines this time around. So watch out for our reaction with you any time we want to clear mess in Sudan. You will be sorry for letting Arabs islamized you in your respect state .

      Ya Jalaby

Lets look at your usual blabber about southerners in detail. The issues of a failed state you raise against them are as follows:

      1) War: The north bigots and ruling elites have been fighting a war against the south for decades on end, more recently against the East and West despite the half hearted attempts at peace.

      2) Rebellion: You have more than 17 splinter rebels groups in the West, and of course the SPLA in South Kordufan and Blue Nile... lets no talk about SPLA South as its no longer in your racist domain.

      3) Corruption: North Sudan is an ocean of corruption, with systematic looting of public funds and employment of who you know rather than who is capable and not to mention the countless companies owned by government officials, from Awad Aljaz, Al Mutafi, Nafi Ali Nafi and of course the president’s brother Abdallah Bashir and the list is endless, notwithstanding their foreign assets too.

      4) Tribalism: Shaigia, Ja’alia and Danagla were and are still the main beneficiaries of the northern tribalism, ofcourse there are few others here and there. SAF rank and file is almost exclusively from these areas with the foot soldiers (up until recently anyway) from the marginalized areas, why do you think Khalil Ibrahim rebelled? because of your racist policy of using the Abeed to kill the other Abeed.

      5) Discrimination: Shimally bigots are the pioneers of that word in Sudan since before independence from the British and till this day, non-muslims and non-Arabs are routinely discriminated against and of course women for wearing trousers.. Not to mention the Education system which blatantly favors your likes Mr racist Jalaby. You guys are the epitome of discrimination.

Now, how in God’s name could you talk about the South Sudan being a failed state? You throw stones at other’s houses while living in a glass house, you are a DISGRACE. The south has its fare share of problems but you shimally bigot are in no position to talk about them

As for those northerners you call fools, not only have they gained their dignity with the help of the SPLA/M. Let me assure you the NCP fears them with a passion, they have a standing army of over 50,000 with most of their weapons obtained from your cowards in SAF.. (bunch of pussycats), only good for raping women and killing children. Yasir Arman is a man amongst you cowards who can defend the rights of his people from the very people he calls brothers, your Islamic militancy has destroyed the country and misguided the muslims of Sudan simply because of your twisted interpretation of the religion.

Jalaby you are a pathetic racist and don’t even posses the intelligence of holding a reasonable argument about Sudanese politics. You, Mohammed, Sam.Eto and now Ahmed are the indoctrinated generation of the old Sudan as well as the few tribalist southerners on here, your days are numbered....

      Jalaby or Jalabia,

You should respect those who already knew their original than those who’s still following the fake Arabs(Muslims) not the original one.

Jalabia, you should asked yourself where your origin from and which ethnicity you belong to.

You should take the examples Libya their original Arabs and Muslims which has been denied by those who claims themselves they are the real Arabs which are not from Africa. They joints together with the imperialists and fights against the African leader Col Gaddafi.

When the imperialists started fighting against Saddam Hussein, all the Arabs step aside and condemn the attacks against their Arabs and Muslims.

Now, where are you from those two stand points, and don’t forget that you are black and claim yourself Arab. Then how can the real Arabians now called you. I hope they are not going to called you a salves.

My friend stop lying to yourself that you are Arabs.

Whatever they do or give at this time will not convince the people of South Kordofan to vote for an ICC wanted criminal like Haroun. Where were they (The NCP)with the development project resources all this time?

Let them (the people of South Kordofan)do like what we did in the South, despite the promises made by the NCP to convince us vote for unity, we voted overwhelmingly for separation.
