October 25, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese army dismissed reports on clashes with the kidnappers of 9 Chinese oil workers that are claiming to be part of a Darfur rebel movement.

Sudanese army spokesperson, Brigadier Osman Mohamed Al-Aghbash told reporters todday that “Our troops have not done any attempt to free the hostages and reports of the clashes that wounded two of the hijackers are unfounded”

Three Chinese engineers and six other workers employed by the China National Petroleum Corporation were kidnapped on October 19 in South Kordofan. The head of kidnappers said yesterday that they request Chinese departure from the area because of their support to the Sudanese government.

The Chinese envoy to Darfur Liu Guijin, who began talks today with Sudanese officials, said there is a complete coordination between the two countries to find a quick solution to the problem of the kidnapped Chinese oil workers.

Also, a delegation from the Messeriya tribe arrived to the area where the kidnappers are supposed to be to hold talks with them on the release of the Chinese oil worker.

The members of the Arab Messeria tribe had reportedly carried out the kidnapping because they want a greater share of the region’s oil revenue.

The head of the kidnappers, Abu Humaid Ahmed Dannay, who is also a Misseriya said the abduction was aimed at drawing attention to the lack of development in the region and the failure of oil companies operating there to help provide services or jobs for natives.

The Messeria were also blamed for the kidnapping of four Indian oil workers and their Sudanese driver in the same area in May. All five managed to escape or were released unharmed, the last one in July.

Sudanese army denies military operation against Chinese kidnappers
I wish all the Chinese kidnapped should be killed; b’se China is responsible for the death of any Dafurian and of deaths occurs in South Sudan during the war between SPLA and NCP regime. China supporting Sudan in return to have big share in oil, So they value oil much more then live of citizen is Sudan, they even help Sudan army militarily by direct involvement of Chinese pilots in bombing people in Dafur. So I’m advising the kidnappers to kill all the Chinese people they are holding so that China can stop supporting the brutal regime of Omaaaaar el Bashir.
