Salva Kiir says concerned by Rumbek Mosque incident

April 9, 2008 ( KHARTOUM) — Sudanese First Vice-President expressed concern over the decision of Lakes State authorities to prevent Rumbek Muslim from rebuilding Rumbek Mosque and the arrest of six among them last February.

Salva Kiir
Salva Kiir
Salva Kiir Mayardit, has urged the southern government to safeguard the rights of Muslims to carry out their religious rites through religious coexistence as stipulated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the official SUNA reported.

The President of the Government of Southern Sudan said he would issue his directives to the region’s governor, Daniel Awet Akot, to take the necessary steps which will ensure that the Mosque resumes sending out its message.

In last February, the Lakes state authorities arrested six Muslims for trying to rebuild a mosque in the town centre despite the rejection of the competent authorities to give the necessary permission.

Rumbek Muslim said they wanted to renovate their mosque which established since 1936. But the authorities said they are mapping the town and a special land would be allotted for the mosque out the town centre.

First of all i would like to Congratulate and welcome everyone back to our home forum, and also i would like to advice those of Biar,James,Trueson just to mention few that this web is not a bin for throwing rubbish we should keep it as standard as every forum through respect and friendly behaviours.debating should be done in right manner and use responsible words in your langauges other than spoiling the site by insulting and alot of hatred.whoever you are and wherever you are please welcome back.

To the issue of Islamic to build their Mosques in South would be a great choice of judgement in my view, because there is a deep point in religious and their charaters as carry out by their own leaders around the glob in current generation,in my opinion i would say yes they can have access to build their mosque because under CPA there were chapters concerning this point of religions in Sudan,so lets give them chance, but i strongly disagree that they should not operate with Northern system of shria Law and other stuff which would make same effects to Southerners or depress any Southerner on his own land and rights.Because we are going to modern world and we need everyone to enjoy his rights and real freedom.otherwise if any changes were attempted to happen i will strongly support the idea of Mr governor because its obvious that people are leading religion into cruel politics, and same religions are sadist religions as everyone can suggest my point if not you better check out around the glob, who are the group of terrorist beside shria law and etc, please southerners you have to be open and responsible in your own land. Also Mr President has made quick respond to Islamic issues while dinkanization of Equatoria has been blocked,ok thank you mr president.

Thank you loving brother Mr LOGIC IS BACK fresh and responsible

    Mr Logic:

A man normally meant what he say, I welcome you too to the furom, I want to welcome Trueson though his cousin Biar is already in. I know people like you Logic, don’t quiet understand the meaning of discusion board, I know when we debate, we usually involve in disagreement, and that is fine because it is a part of debate itself, However, the point of insulting ourselves and our leaders in highly sensitive words is not acceptable and it is not part of debate.

You need to change your dirty behaviors or some of us will quit this furom for good. Try to ask how people debate if you didn’t participate in any debate club during you primary or secondary school period. I want to say the same to Trueson, Liber and others who love to used offensive words in their writings.

I hope you read this and accept that call of change.

    God bless.

I think mr Governor is very clear in his point. the reason[s] for mosque not ot be renovated is because it has been situated in the heart of the main market in Rumbek. therefore muslim brothers were and are doing their 5 times prayer in peace now.

    no restriction for them

Salva Kiir should stay out of normal duties of the States. There are tens of families sheltering under trees in the very Rumbek as result of that mappings. Which one needs his immediate responds: the Mosque or people under trees with rains approaching??

Or else he is exerting 2nd vice President, Taha last week call of protecting “Musims rights” in the South and Kiir must now be responding at wrong time at wrong place!!!!!

As headman in the South, Kiir has the authority and rights to empty his mind at anytime at any place but he be cautious so that Southerners can’t see him like an hunter’s dog. All the hunter needs is find an animal, direct his dog, and his job is done; that animal is down in no time no matter what.

Southerners need an independence minded leader who wouldn’t always come back with empty hands from Abuja peace talks or make them worry if he catches that “again” flight to Khartoum.

Mapping of towns are being carried out throughout the South and the “Mosques” or Churches must not be spared if the interfere with arrangements. Its even better if the authority can consider other alternatives.

Otherwise, don’t do anything all together. Leave those hopeless people alone and yes don’t touch the shrined “Mosques.”

Every Sudanese can’t guess the reason why always non Southern Sudanese muslims jumps up first to echo complains over muslims rights violations now in the South. As if things turns more political other than religious.Socially all muslims in Southern Suadn enjoys equal opportunities as christians. When diversity explains, it was seen that most of the Nubians and Southern Blue Nile who fought for the SPLA in the South are definitely muslims.Back to the Historical background of Southern Sudan,Central Government’s institutions and investments were islamic orientated.Practically, you find that all the concrete build houses are either good mosques or koranic centres.Strategically most of the mosques were build in clear angle of any entrance to a town in the South to attract viewers. There is religious coexistance in Southern Sudan but what prevails is only fears of past inflicted wounds in the south not a disrespect of religion but more a racial or ethnicity misunderstanding.

    Mr. Logic:

Your outcry and concern based on Islamic mosque dispute is clear, however, we are trying to be politicians here too though we may not be the best, as you remember we fought the arabized regimes all those years because we want to fix the sick politics in Sudan including the violation of religion rights, being so, we don’t want the people of Sudan and the world to see as like people who were not fighting for real problem facing our citizens, but just for political takeover.

The issue of the mosque or Islam as a whole should not uproot our consistancy, we are people with our own tradition and policies that no one is coming to override them, because if the mosque is built, and community where the mosque is build keep on sticking to its traditional norms, I think the only regular members in that mosque will be bats and foxes if not hyenas and snakes, secondly, put in mind that, we do have some churches still in Khartoum, that means if we prevent building of mosques in south Sudan, that means we have not only violeted region rights, but we have also open wide doors for the already rotten government in Khartoum to expel our brothers who are still in the north.

Brothers, politics is very complicated dirty game that require investment of a lot of skills, that is why we need to observe such kind of thing very carefully. But, the since the all towns in south Sudan are under design, Muslims must be adviced to understand this move as national task that is not specifically establish to interfere or distablize any single organization or individual.

Mr. Logic, we need to handle things politically now rather than physically.

    I hope you agree.

    God bless.

Mr. president you are right as far as you are commited to CPA’s protocol. I personally congratulate you because of the work you have shown to us the younsters of New sudan. We the christians are univesral hence we worship God not any body. so therefore we allow our muslim brothers to go ahead with thier mosque rehabilitation. in this way we are telling them that we know more about humanity than them in Khartoum where churches have been destroyed by them and to some extend abolishing christian gatherings.
    Bravo! Comrade Kiir ..
