President al-Bashir lauds Sudan-India ties

Feb 11, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — President Omer al-Bashir has praised the distinguished relations between Sudan and India.

Omar_el-Bashi.jpgAl-Bashir received Saturday the visiting Indian Minister of Heavy industry, in the presence of the Ministers of Energy and Mining and Finance, the General Director of the National Electricity Corporation.

The Indian minister acquainted President al-Bashir with his talks with Sudanese ministers.

In a press statement to SUNA after the meeting, the Indian minister said that he renewed invitation of his country’s President to President al-Bashir to visit India.

He affirmed the keenness of India to consolidate its relations and cooperation with Sudan, especially in the fields of oil industry, agriculture, technical education, transport and small-scale industry.

He said that India will establish Kosti Electricity Power Station during a period of four years.

India signed on 23 January an agreement with the African nation for a 350 million dollar Line of Credit for setting up a 500 MW power project by state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.

The total project cost of about 500 million dollar is being shared by the two countries, with the Exim Bank of India giving a credit line of 350 million dollar.

In addition, the two countries also signed another loan agreement of 41.9 million dollars for Singa-Gedarif transmission line and sub-station.
