Unity state’s Angelina Teny refutes explanation on Bentiu stadium incident

March 19, 2010 (JUBA) – The independent candidate for governorship of Unity state, Angelina Teny, has refuted reports which suggested that supporters of the SPLM-Democratic Change of Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin involved in the disrupted rally at Bentiu stadium on Monday.

The aborted rally was organized for the reception of the SPLM presidential candidate and incumbent President of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, who as a result cancelled his appearance at the stadium and flew back to Juba.

Speaking to Sudan Tribune on Thursday from Unity state’s capital, Bentiu, Angelina said the disruption of Salva Kiir’s rally was caused by internal SPLM division in the state, particularly between the campaign teams, and had nothing to do with the SPLM-DC as alleged.

She explained that the argument was between President Kiir’s campaign team and the state campaign team for the Caretaker governor, Taban Deng Gai, over the fate of her supporters in the stadium.

She further explained that her supporters who constituted overwhelming majority at the stadium were chanting slogans in support of Yasir Arman, for the President of the Republic of Sudan, Salva Kiir for the President of the Government of Southern Sudan and Angelina Teny for the post of governor of Unity state.

“My supporters who were the majority in the stadium to receive the President were chanting slogans in support of candidatures of Yasir Arman, Salva Kiir and myself. That disappointed the few supporters of Taban Deng Gai who were in the stadium,” she explained.

Salva Kiir’s state campaign team, chaired by Dr. Joseph Manytuil, saw nothing wrong with Angelina’s supporters who also approved the presidential candidatures, but that did not go well with Taban’s campaign team because, to them, their choice for governorship was substituted for Angelina by the majority chanting in the stadium.

Dr. Joseph Manytuil Wijang is currently the minister of Health in the Government of Southern Sudan and chairman of the SPLM in Unity state.

Angelina further explained that the official SPLM secretariat in Unity state supported her candidature while Taban Deng was being supported by a handful of party officials who defied the secretariat’s decision.

The independent candidate said she had overwhelming support in the state as she had already covered many of the counties during her campaign. In her Thursday’s campaign in Koch County headquarters, over 6,000 people turned out to receive her, she said.

But that did not end there without harassments by the security organs, she added. In Koch, Angelina said keys of three vehicles for her campaign team were forcefully taken from drivers by the security organs and two people were arrested on the pretext that the authorities were not informed about the rally in the county.

“That was not true because we had obtained a permission letter from the state Elections Committee office before we conducted the rally,” she explained.

“Up to now these two people from my campaign team are still under detention,” she added.

Angelina also said that in Guit county, soldiers shot live bullets to disperse a huge crowd that was receiving her for a political rally. The people however ignored the shootings which ended after the intervention of the United Nations personnel and the rally went on successfully. No body was hurt.

Educated in Great Britain and speaks both fluent English and Arabic, Angelina, who is also the current state minister of Energy and Mining in the Government of National Unity, observed that the incumbent Caretaker governor’s team was unhappy seeing her overwhelming support among the people across the state.

Despite being disowned by the SPLM Political Bureau’s decision along with her other independent colleagues in the ten states, she said her presidential candidates are Salva Kiir Mayardit and Yasir Arman for the presidency of Southern Sudan and Republic of Sudan, respectively, and mobilizes her supporters to vote for them.

The question since she chose to run as an independent, why is she still holding a position she acquired as an SPLM member? Salva Kiir you have allowed our party be stolen by bunches of cowards. What the hell is going in your mind here, how can SPLM’s presidential running mate’s wife contests against her husband’s party? some body is really, really dumb in GOSS, either Salva Kiir or Riak Machar

Yeah you’re right, this smells fishy. I don’t know anything about these independent candidates although Ms Teny seems like an intelligent woman and I always support strong women in charge, but I digress... the matter of what to do with independents isn’t as simple as it seems. Just think about it- what if this article is correct and Ms Teny really does have more support in Unity than Taban Deng Gai? What if Col. Bakosoro really does have more support in Western Equatoria than Governor Nunu, Alfred Gore more support than Clement Wani in Central Equatoria. Do you think it would be wise for the SPLM to reject twice the people’s choice? Party loyalty is important but some people hide their lack of performance behind their party status.

Like I said; I don’t know anything about these independent candidates or about their support, I personally am by default supporting the SPLM candidates. I think however that even the independents believe SPLM ideas and would gladly return to the party in a second. It doesn’t appear to me that they are anything like Lam Akol: egotistical, delusions of power and grandeur, so on, we all know Lam by now I hope.

As a side note to people who aren’t the biggest Riek Machar fans; I’ve long followed the Late Doctor and forgiven Riek, at least he’s helping now. He was wonderful in the Abyei tribunal, and he knows NCP tricks well. People like Lam are who we need to watch, they are cunning and not stupid. Brilliant but something missing, Americans call it a "moral compass". Even Paulino Matip Nhial (smart yes, but no Dr.) had enough sense and heart to do the right things when the time came.

        Angelina Teny Oyeee........

Salva Kiir has made a very big mistake by imposing on the people of Unity state somebody by the name Taban who is rejected by the state citizens. He was voted out from state SPLM chairmanship and Dr. Joseph Manytuel took over. Yet Kiir maintained him by force against the SPLM policy which aimed at appointing winning party state chairpersons.

Angelina has proved her loyalty to the party that mistakenly disowned her. She supports Salva Kiir and Yasser Arman. Is that not a brilliant lady who knows her target?

She offered her supporters to welcome Kiir because without them in Unity state, only 100 people from Taban’s supporters would have turned up. But Angelina’s supporters turned up in thousands to receive their candidate. What is wrong with that? Salva Kiir and his 14 member out of 27 members of political bureau were wrong to disown their true loyal and popular candidates.

I hope they will instate Angelina after she wins the governorship post in Unity state.

        Angelina Teny oyeeeeee.............

Angelina Teny offered her supporters to welcome her husband Riek not Kiir. So at the end what happened? She was showing her suppoters that the husband is coming.
That is the game from her side to gain the support of the people of Unity State no doubt for that Gatwech.

        Dear fellow Nuer,

Taban Deng Gai is the right man for the job in Unity state. Those of Angelina and Joseph who claimed to be Presiential campaign manager in Unity state are just wasting their precious time! Guandit col Taban Deng Gai is "ten nuers in one." He is destined to lead the people of Unity state for the next 20 years. We will not be bother by the outcome of election in Unity State because Presidential decree will still be there. Angelia’s bloody hands are not needed on the affair of Unity state. She is unfaithful wife and therefore she is going to be unfaithful leader if she is elected. There is something fishy in Bentiu as we are speaking; the Deputy commander in chief Paulino Matip Nhial has moved to Bentiu where he is plotting assassination of GOSS president. If Kiir needs SPLM/SPLA not to be stabb in the back again by Nuer’s thugs; then he act now and take over the "sin city" (Bentiu) before Nuer stabb our movement in the back like they did in 1991. Folks, don’t label me ad being tribalist. I am just trying to tell the truth at this juncture. Where were Nuer from 1983-2005? Matip Nhial wHas fighting the SPLA to protect the oil feild for Omer Bashiir. Riek Machar was fighting the SPLA for his greediness of power. Ngundeng was right when he said that the "only good Nuer is a dead Nuer." Ngundeng was frustrated after being cheated by nuer.

        Angelina Who?

Taban Deng Gai and SPLM/A chairperson, Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit are victims of absurb politics of division indoctrinated to the people of Unity State by the Teny family, starting in 1991 and until now.

As I have mentioned before, Taban Deng Gai is overwhelmingly rejected in the Unity State because he is portrayed by the Tenys and their supporters as a coward non-Nuer, a collaborater of the corrupted Dinka dominated government in the South, and, is not working for the interest of the Nuer people.

The irony is that many Southerners assumed Unity State as typical Southern State, but not realizing the political implications there; the perceptions of the Nuer kingdom promised by Ngundeeng echoed by Ngundeeng worshippers, the idolization of Riak machar as the chosen one to lead the South by Ngundeng, the agony of some Nuers regarding Dinkas as the ones blocking them from having their own person leading the South. All those are fuelled by many political elements in Sudan as a whole.

The interesting question is, why is Angelina Teny running independently for the governorship in Unity State opposing her husband side, the SPLM? Or is SPLM not Riak’s true vision? I do not think many of her supporters can give a precise answers to those, but to many like me it truely looks like an aspiration of the politics I have stated above. And if so, SPLM will be derailed, and eventually forced to do something at some point sooner or later.

The SPLM must recognize these political implications within it body and deal with them swiftly, or neglect them and be ready to embrace another drawback in a crucial time in our history of liberating our ourselves from the cunning Arabs North.

many thanks, I don’t just thank you for the comment you have made regarding Bentiu incident but the brilliant analysis you have made regarding the political situation in south Sudan, most of the people do make many comments but only based on tribal lines and when I look at it, it seems as if we don’t understand what is politics. Yes, most of the people may change their true colors during the elections time to get what they aspire for and the only means to get it is to use those means which result to violence. We should know that not all of them, I mean presidential candidates will fight for the interests and independence of south Sudan as many deserted us at relative time of war and the right examples are the same people who want this leadership of today. I think you may guess who I am talking about as in political context.

Moreover, Dr Lam Akol, mentioned it during his rally in Juba that the first thing for him to do if he is elected is to fight corruption which we all support, I Hope no one would disagree with him because it is an evil around us and needs ’marathon fighting’ but the question will be asked on him is, to what extent will he fight corruption yet it has been a strong enemy that every candidate is aiming at and no one has won it? Even the so called anti-corruption has become toothless? Also when he was a minister of Foreign Affairs in the National government, he was asked a question regarding war in Darfur as whether it is to be named as genocide but his right answer as he thinks was ’how many people need to be killed in Darfur such that it can be called genocidal war?’ now how capable is he to fight these things that bedeviling South Sudan? or did he think that corruption is fought when one is a president of state? as for my comment, I would say regardless of many things that have happened to us we have to do away with them and fight the common goal we are thirsty of,and how to get it, let’s all have the spirit of brotherhood and leave alone who is who but let the ballot boxes determine who to lead us to the promise land.

Angelina Teny is right to say so that most of her supporters are being harassed by state authority but the only advise I would prefer to tell her is that ’leadership is a heavy load’ she need not to shout louder, she must bear with the situation for the sake of citizens who always remain vulnerable in whatever the circumstances. I know it has been a culture to all the authorities at state levels and the whole of Sudan is harassing independent candidates.

Thanks for your words. You hit the nail on the head, it’s the ideas behind the candidates that matter, not personality. It’s important as far as image sometimes affects the people’s confidence in one’s abilities, but that’s politics.

The apparently dramatic pasts of Taban and Angelina is fresh news to me. Intriguing as they are, we don’t have time for soap operas when we have some serious policy issues to deal with, not to mention NCP tricks, they never sleep. I personally don’t care who slept with who and what tribe whoever is, I care about who is not corrupt, who can being development, democracy, children, culture, science, and agriculture to feed our new nation. These are the things the Doctor cared about.

Sometimes one is embarrass to an appalling point why always do president Kiir takes things with negligent.

Three things should have not let president Kiir appointed Monytueil to be his compaign manager in Unity State:

Firstly, is the worse of all, he Monytueil is a militia thug.

Secondly, Monytueil has once stolen the chairmanship of SPLM party in Unity State from governor Tyson Taban Deng Gai but was upright rejected by himself Kiir.

Thirdly, he Monytueil has self-appointed himself to race in the forthcoming elections with SPLM ticket for Unity governorship, but again was upright rejected.

So with the few above mentioned reasons, where in the world could someone wise really appointed a person like Monytueil to be one’s compaigning manager again if not really that person could be president Kiir of GoSS government.

The other thing too, a minister can not be a compaign manager if an unkown is not related to this routine lacking of consceince.

Anyways we are left in tough choice to only choose between Kiir and Lam by patriotic leaders; Pagan, Kuol, Hoth, Nhial and Wani to help the people of Southern Sudan to vote for either one of them.

Angelina is a South Sudanese daughter and therefore she has every right to hold that position unless there is no human as well as citizens rights in your SPLM.

Second, being Riek Machar’s wife should not prevent her to fight for her rights and the rights of her people in Unity State. She can even form a political party.

Third, Salva Kiir has learned a lesson he will not forget in Bentiu this week during his election campaign at Bentiu Stadium.

Please, do your cruel agressions in Yambio, Aweil, and Juba where your party has imposed corrupt elements on the people. However, don’t approach Bentiu!

Is it Angelina who is the official nominee of the SPLM that she should be supported by the SPLM secretariat or are there forces within the SPLM behind her candidacy? Campaigns are always aborted if there is disorganisation to disrupt the rally but you do not have to use it as an excuse to discredit the entire Nuers. Give them the chance.

Let the people of Unity decide on the leader of their state just as my counterparts, Western Equatorians are going to vote in Col. Bakosoro and then Jemma Nunu is going to lose.

It was senseless of president Kiir even to choose Monytueil, the traitor who revealed his inspiration for the Unity State governorship when he steal SPLM chairmanship in Unity State, but was upright rejected and again his militia name was discarded when he self appointed himself to race for SPLM ticket.

Kiir should relieves Monytueil immediately or unless he president Kiir wants desperately to get himself kill in cold blood. He should not be dumb enought to takes embarrassment happened to him in Bantiu as mere distruption because he has just escaped his first attempt which will be followed soon with plan B if he is not wise to know who his vice president is.

God is about to get sick of frequent protecting of president Kiir from traitor Riak Machar’s assessination plots. So if he Kiir is already tired of running but couldn’t find safe heaven to hide, then let him tell us now before he is gone because we done want to cracks our minds again after him in his funeral. I hopes president Kiir have not choose to go in cold blood in this April elections.

        peter pal,

Dinka is not going anywhere instead our Dinka’s servant, Riak Machar, will be soon. Just keeps counting down the election days because they are traitor his days too.

I know shit will spark soon, but will see where will you traitors will run into again since we are there in your hide out.

Believe it, there are very limited chances of us having peace with militia thugs in Southern Sudan until the architect of tribalism, traitor Riak Machar, is not in the people’s government and party again.

Do not be overwhelmed with irritation please because your asses are in our hands.

TRAITORS tried to rattle President Kiir by acting like hooligans who don’t show proper respect and decorum in public events. They better watch out. Taban Deng would make a great governor in Unity state than those so-called SPLM independent candidates.

Angelia also said that in Guit county, soldiers shot live bullets to disperse ahuge crown that was receiving her for a political rally. The poeple however ignored shooting.

Maybe live bullets don’t kill Guit county poeple, if it do, that mean Madam Anglina is a big liar no doubt about that forsure.

          Jack Chuol,

You have a silly comment based on a silly understanding. Live bullets do not kill when shot into the air to disperse a crowd. And do you think the people would have ignored the shootings or left without wounded or killed if the bullets were shot to kill? Why couldn’t you understand this simple thing? Gosh, some people have very low understanding and fail to connect the dots.

Bravo Angelina for keeping peace during your campaigns period , Taban Gai is and had always been a trouble maker, he will not go through this time dispite being SPLM official candidate.

Shame on him for failling President’s campaign rally in Bentiu State

How to discern True Christianity from False Doctrine

      1. True Christianity must line up with the Bible, the word of God. True Christianity pronounces Jesus Christ to be the son of God and believes that He is the only way to salvation and forgiveness.

      2. True Christianity will be rejected by the vast majority. This has always been the case throughout history. In Noah’s time only 8 people were saved in the whole world. In Lot’s time only Lot and his family were saved in two cities. The Bible says that our time will be similar to Noah and Lot’s time so it is very likely that the percentage of people saved could be similar.

      3. True Christianity will be considered radical by most people. Jesus, the apostles and the prophets were considered radical. The Bible says that Christians are a peculiar people.

      4. True Christianity will boldly rebuke and hate evil to such a large extent that those who preach the truth will greatly upset those who are evil. Those who preach truth will suffer persecution as a result.

      5. True Christianity will be controversial and cause divisions (Luke 12: 51,52). To cause these divisions major change would have to occur in someone’s life which would upset others.

      6. True Christianity will testify that almost everything that almost everyone does is evil.

      7. True Christianity will be about true love, which is sharing and caring for others, where the main focus is to proclaim or aid the proclamation of the Gospel.

      8. True Christianity will not be conformed to the world by accepting or desiring materialism, money and commercialism as a good thing or a part of life.

      9. True Christianity will not be able to be proved wrong, although people may appear to make it sound untrue by arguing against it by using false statements.

      10. True Christianity will not be deceptive or misleading or cause people to believe a lie. It will be about honesty and truth. People today are saying misleading things such as that the church is fine. They say that people are getting healed everywhere and saying that they are healed when they are not. This could be compared to a dishonest salesman who says something is great when it does not work in order to get people to accept their product or system.

      11. True Christianity is positive about good things and doing God’s will, but it hates evil. It is not like the mainstream that is positive about many evil things. Saying that something evil is good is only leading people to do evil. Many people say that things are fine and that many people are being saved and doing God’s will when this is not true. This is only suppressing the fact that the world is almost totally evil and causing people not to repent.

      12. True Christianity has the fruits of commitment to doing God’s will and it will follow the historical example of those who did God’s will such as Jesus, the Apostles and the Prophets. Using your time and money to do God’s will is the purpose of life. The majority don’t do God’s will by working for the corrupt system or spending their money and time on unnecessary things.
Where does this leave the mainstream Church and the millions of people who think they are Christians. Although the mainstream churches have a lot of true Bible teaching, it appears that they probably will not fit into the category of the minority of saved believers. Therefore, they may be rejected and considered lukewarm if they don’t repent.

The Bible promises that God will help His chosen people who obey Him by answering their prayers and leading them. However, curses are promised to people that disobey God. (Duet 28). Obedient people should therefore receive a greater percentage of desirable outcomes and a lower percentage of undesirable outcomes than the ungodly. God should help His people to think or work more efficiently, remember better, make the correct decisions, and find what they need with less frustrating problems, inconveniences or accidents than unbelievers

            Dear readers,

Why do most of the people on this wesite are only on attacking others? Do you guys know what a constructive argument is? You can disagree with anybody and still respect them. Election is not that far way to whether those people we want to be elected get elected or not.In the case of Angela, it is up to the people of Unitey State if they want her to be their gov’r it is up to them. Attacking one another will not do as good only distructing as from seeing the real picture. Is this how we are going to live in the South after 2011? If so we are all in big mess. there will be war between tribes and that will lead as to be a number two after Somalia, a country divided among the war lord. is that what we want? if the answer is yes, keep priching the hatered or if the answer is "No", we have to change our tones for the good of soon to be the country ( South Sudan).

Dear brothers Southern Sudanese on the site let us tell our grassroots not to support the independent candidates in the South. This is because the independent candidates have the problem of not knowing that thay have a problem. Hence, they are the category of Dr. Lam Akol and actually they belong to him. They are violent and do not use their intellect. How can these people lead us in this point of our history?
