South Sudan state prepared to establish relations with Israel: official

October 11, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – A new state in South Sudan would establish relations with Israel should the Jewish state recognize its independence, a senior official in the semi-autonomous region said.

In three months’ time, the people of South will decide on whether they wish declare independence from the North or stay part of united Sudan. Most observers expect an overwhelming vote in favor of secession.

Southern Sudan Information Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the Dubai based Al-Khaleej newspaper that the new state "is capable of establishing with all world countries" in response to question about future links with Israel.

"The independent South will establish relations with all world countries and will not antagonize anyone.....Any state that recognize us we will have relations with. Just like there are diplomatic relations to some Arab states with Israel then why not us?" Benjamin added.

Sudan has no diplomatic relations with Israel and remains hostile to the Jewish state on the grounds that it is occupying Arab lands.

Israel is the house for several hundreds Sudanese refugees who fled through the Egyptian borders.

South Sudan diplomatic and military relation with Jewish State of Israel is an absolute possibility after secession; there is no question about it.
Whoever hates it will and must have to deal with it.

This article was just published after the survey that was on the web few days ago. The question was asking whether south Sudan will establish relationship with Israel. This survey was just designed so that most people will response yes so that most Arab people are aggravated and will therefore hinder or work against the independence of south Sudan. This is part of the NCP compaign to hinder the independence of the south Sudan. This is all pathetic. Given the double standard the NCP has toward most citizens in the country, Sudan will fall apart.

Diabolical! It seems like huge coincidence otherwise. This is a big allegation though. Are you implying Sudan Tribune is in collusion with NCP? If so, who gave them the idea for the poll? (I voted yes also by the way).

I genuinely credit GOSS for demonstrating to the NCP and the entire world that the South is ready to govern itself. We desparetely need to establish good relations regionally and tarnsnationally. And Israel is one of those nations from the Middle East we need on our side. I hope they are prepared to acknowledge the outcome of the referenda.

John Garang was a good friend of Yasser Arafat and understood that Palestinians and Southerners were essentially fighting for the same principles. South should therefore understand and sympathize with Palestinian people and not take positions that are overtly pro-Israel. There is no problem establishing relations with Israel as long as they are based on mutual respect. South has equal right to enjoy relations with future Palestinian state.

Yes, thank you very your Excellency Minister Dr.Barnabas for your comment on the future relationship with the State of Israel / Jewish. We don`t have and will not predict to have a problem with anyone Internationally.

Arab dislike jewish because of their ancient history and their blessing from Amighty God, not what Israel did to them, and also an increase of scientists and an intellectual number of jewish people all over the world .

Israel is a Democratic country and had nothing wrong between them and the sudanese ,except being Arab and demonstrating an Arab blind Ideaology.

    We don`t want that politics!!!

This goes to show how shallow these people are. South Sudanese never have any problem with state of Israel and I do not understand why they (Northern Sudanese) keep asking this question? After all Israel has diplomatic relationship with Morocco, Egypt, Jordan...just name few.

    What crazy people??!!

So what if the "potential Fail state" south establishes relation with Israel??!! would that add any values to Israel or Arabs? would that resolve the middle east problem? What benefit will Israel get??

Many arabs countries and all African countries souround Sudan have relation with Israel so did that make any difference??!!

Israel gets its oil and water from Arab countries and will need nothing from the new fail state.

    It’s just bull-shit.

Mr. Jalabi, why hold on tied to what will be the fail State and not let go to fail? Don’t you know Sudan is a failed State now when your president Bashir is not even respected around the world?

You seem to be intellectually blind to see what is going on already in Sudan?
Please don’t worry of South Sudan now; all you need to worry about is what is going on with Darfur in the west and the eastern part of Sudan.

        Abo-jalabia (owns no jalabia)

First of all, South Sudan is not yet listed anywhere as a failed state yet. Click on this link
and see how high Sudan is topping the list. The Sudan that is listed here is not South Sudan. It is your Sudan that is headed by NCP. This is a failed state because it is headed and managed by failed people who have failed in schools. With unity, it will continue to be a fail state because numerous civil wars will ensue after unity.

      Dear Ahmed Chol,
Jalabi is a frustrated lunatic irrationally wailing for the loss of resources they have been stealing from the Southern Sudan. Therefore, don`t waste your time advising lunatics in Khartoum, they will never listen to logic. Here is the salient fact that makes Arabs cry always: The idea of a failed state ironically refers to North Sudan or Khartoum, not Southern Sudan, because they know if we secede from the North Sudan, they will never use our oil and natural resources and North Sudan will be a ’failed state’.

This fact will deprive them of their richness stolen from the South Sudan since the independence of sudan from British. If all you South sudan are wise enough to infer from the Arab cries, you simply see them clinging on us because we are their backbone. For example, the Arabs know Abyei is an obvious part of Southern Sudan and are crying foolishly to claim it when it was deviously transferred to North Sudan by colonial powers.

Jalabi, you are wasting your time here but the reality is that you will never get any chance. Unity of Sudan is another war while the Separation of Sudan is a new Peace. That is the simple answer. Therefore, you need to inform your criminals in Khartoum that ICC is waiting for them in the Hague. We don`t have criminals waiting arrests for international trials in our so-called failed state.

We debated this issue before on BBC at "Africa Have Your Say" when your criminals claimed that Southern Sudan won`t be a "viable state". The Arabs knew well where we ended up on that day of our debate. Your lies, deception, evilness, madness with religion are causes of all these. We were good friends, brothers and sisters, but we will be neighbors over the next few months from now.

What is the underlying rationale? Well then, the underlying rationale is that nobody is qualified to govern another. Therefore, Arabs are not qualified to govern us regardless of their deformed reasoning contrary to the fact.

So, leave us alone in the South Sudan; We don`t want you anymore!!!!!!

Bravo,South Sudan Isreal can be any where in the whole world, and there is nothing bad of that, and NCP should put this in their mind that being of Isreal citizens in the south is not a threat. In Egypt there is Isreal Ambasy what is wrong in it,if we compare travelling from Khartoum to Egypt by plane is 45mins and travelling from Khartoum to Juba by plane is 1-hour& 30 mins which one is more far?.Please i do see that it was not even very wise of writing this Creative Article by pro-NCP interest.
Welcome Isreal to the soil of South Sudan and feel at home move freely in every corner of the South.

South has right to establish diplomatic relations with any country that will recognize her during the result of referendum and Israel inclusive. No country is an island. If there are people who speculate are not lying about the potential diplomatic relations between South and Jewish nation.
