Career: Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, 1978-1981; Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva, 1987-1991; Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, 1991-1999, Member of the International Law Commission of the United Nations, 1994-2004; President of the Security Council, 1996, Vice-President of the UN General Assembly, 1993, 1994 and 1997; Commissioner at the United Nations Compensation Commission in Geneva, 1999-2001; Member of the International Court of Justice, 2001-2006; Foreign Minister of Egypt in Essam Sharaf’s government, March-June 2011.
