Ex-Governor of East Darfur Abdel Hamid Musa Kasha (SUNA)

East Darfur State is in Sudan’s western Darfur region. Since it was established in January 2012 it has shared an international border with South Sudan.

With Sudan, East Darfur State borders North and South Kordofan states to the east, North Darfur State to the north and South Darfur State to the west.

Capital: Ed Daein

Second biggest town: Abou Adid

Founded: 10 January 2012 in line with the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD)

Tribes: East Darfur state is the homeland of the Rizaigat and Beni Hussein tribal groups.
