Aegis Trust: Sudan Revolts

Published on Jul 6, 2012 by AegisTrust

In London, 30 June 2012, activists, Darfuri and Nuba groups marched to petition British Prime Minister David Cameron for assertive diplomatic action to secure access for humanitarian relief to Sudan’s Blue Nile and the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan - where during the past year, half a million have been driven from their homes by Sudanese Government attacks. Some 200,000 are refugees. The rest are at risk of starvation, but food aid is being blocked by Sudan.

For the first time on such a rally in London, the march was joined by Sudanese from Khartoum and across Sudan in support of anti-government protests in Khartoum calling for a change of regime - and calling for Omar Bashir, the only head of state in the World who is wanted for genocide, to go to face trial at the International Criminal Court.

The petition to 10 Downing St was supported by organisations including the Aegis Trust, Darfur Union UK, Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust (HART), Nuba Now Campaign, Nuba Mountains Solidarity Abroad, Waging Peace and Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).
