South Darfur State

South Darfur State is situated to in the south of Sudan’s western Darfur region. To the southwest it borders the Central African Republic and (since July 2011) South Sudan to the southeast.

Within the Darfur region, South Darfur State borders North Darfur State to the north, East Darfur State to the east, and Central Darfur State to the northwest.

Capital: Nyala

Town: Buram, Edd El Fursan, Nyimeri

Area: 127,300 km2 (49,200 sq miles)

Population: 2,890,348 (2006 (est.)
