KAMPALA, Apr 14, 2005 — Acute water shortage has hit the southern Sudanese town of Kajo-keji, following the increased number of voluntary returnees to the area.

The Sudanese People’s Liberation Army executive director, Victor Ware, of Kajo-Keji county said many of the over 15,000 returnees were facing water shortage as most of the boreholes in the area were destroyed during the war in the south.

“The number of the returnees has grown more than twice in the last two months but they are sharing less than 25 boreholes,” he said. He said prior to the war, Kajo-keji had over 250 functional boreholes serving about 20,000 people.
