Darfur peace talks to resume on December 9

KHARTOUM, Nov 28, 2004 (SUNA) — A new session of negotiation is due to begin on December 9 between the government and Darfur rebels in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, under auspices of the African Union.

Magzoub El-Khalifa Ahmed, head of the Sudanese government’s delegation to the Abuja talks with Darfur rebels.

In a press statement, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Najib Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab, said that the government has received notification on resumption of the negotiations in Abuja on December 9.

He expected the coming session of negotiation to be decisive, adding that the negotiations will be focused on the issues of the political settlement and the economic and social aspects of Darfur conflict.
