Talks between Sudanese opposition NDA, govt to start on 16 October

KHARTOUM, Oct 5, 2004 (SUNA) — Deputy Secretary General of the National Congress, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, disclosed that the coming session of negotiation between the government and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are due to be held in Cairo on October 16.

Dr. Nafie said that he informed the Egyptian mediator acceptance of October 16 as a date to resume the negotiations with the NDA, adding that the government is ready for this negotiation session.

He said in a statement that he met Tuesday at Hilton Hotel here with the visiting Iranian President, Mohamed Khatami, and discussed ways of boosting the cooperation in the political work between the National Congress and the ruling Participation party in Iran.

He indicated that he also reviewed with President Khatami the role of the two parties in reactivating the cooperation between Sudan and Iran in the economic, trade and political fields, in dicating that he briefed the Iranian President on Darfur crisis and the challenges facing Sudan and the recent aborted sabotage attempt of the People’s Congress.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nafie hoped that the coming visit of the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, will avail him the chance to get acquainted with real situation in Sudan.
