September 15, 2017 (JUBA) - The former South Sudanese chief of army staff said Friday that the death of his daughter and refusal by the government to allow him to attend burial service at home in his village has put the family in real tragedy.

“You saw the faces of the people, the mother, the brothers, sisters of Alakiir and other family members who knew her. They were all down. Some of them did not eat for days. It is a real tragedy and this is why I had hoped to attend the burial and provide guidance during the period of mourning but now there is no information I will go with the body,” Gen.Paul Malong Awan told Sudan Tribune on Friday.

The former Inspector General of police, Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol called on the family to stay strong, saying it is the God who gave them the late daughter and it is the same God who has taken her.

“I came to participate in the reception of the body and stand in solidarity with Gen.Paul Malong and his family because death is painful but what we can do. There is nothing we can do because this is the same way we are going to. The tragedy here now is that it is the young child, young daughter who has a lot to do with the family and the country. She was a brave daughter and someone who loves people that was the reason she gave her life to save others, her sister and colleagues in the school,” said Gen. Kuol.

Awan, a former ally of President Salva Kiir, was dressed in a black shirt as a sign of mourning the daughter. He looked calm but in an unusual mood, partly due to the death of his daughter and house arrest.

No senior presidential aide and cabinet ministers from his area were at the airport during the reception of the body. However, low-level government officials and two top army general generals were in attendance. Some legislators and former party officials allied to him also accompanied him.

Gen. Marial Chanduong, commander of ground forces and Gen. Mangar Buong Aluong, assistant Chief of defence forces were among the two top military officers who went to Juba airport for reception of the body.

The sooner the idiots that advised Salva Kiir get over this nonsense & let the South Sudanese people look at other important issues facing our country & our people from the inside & outside our country, the better. Our people are really proving to be a short memory people. Don’t they say in Dinka (Bible) that "duok ke nhiim ye maar ci kul/kuool" (never be forgetful like pig/warthogs)>>>

A pig/warthog can run a way from its predator & then forget in not less than 400 metres a way and start digging for food that it was hunted for a dinner a minute or two earlier. This is the analogy of the saying though. Right after the comprehensive peace agreement (CPA) in 2005. Our most our leaders forgot like pigs that existential enemy (our cloned so-called arab North Sudan)>>>

          Newsudan,
"fear of unknow" was reason Benjamin Bol Akok was killed after talking to Mourmor battalion in Bonga, that he may take over SPLM/A one day if he wants since Aweil is becoming majority. Malong was dismissed purely for same reason, they even think they still have rights to hold him. It is an injustice and this is why entire Aweil is not divided.

And so death is painful!! Although I would like to convey my condolence for the loss of your daughter, I beg you to look at our recent history about your responsibility on the death of thousands of innocent Nuers in Juba and indeed many other South Sudanese in the country. So death is only painful to you only if it is at your door strange enough. Be human!!

      Jur,
Army Chief of staff at the time was James Hoth and the fight in Juba where some civilians were killed was between Tiger, Kiir body guides and reckless Riek group. How was Malong, then governor of NBG be responsible? Yes Malong is responsible for destruction of white army and their defeat across the country started from Bor. You have right to hate him but not for what he’s not responsible.

President Kiir is not mistaken guys.People learn from past lessons.Imagine what late Athor did when he was allowed to go home after elections.Imagined what Yau Yau did when president Kiir allowed to go for treatment.Imagine what Peter Gadet did when he was allowed to go back to Division eight. All the above mentioned people were suspected of defection but president Kiir gave them freedom .

Frankly speaking. what Gen Malong Did after his removal from the position of General Chief of Staff was a rebellion by all military definitions.Mutiny in military context is when more than two soldiers openly disobey their superior using the military power.Gen Malong mutinied when he was removed from his former position.Had it not been for the JCE, he would have faced General Court Martial.

Malong was dismissed when he headed home, what he supposed to do, killed some cows and call on celebration? No laws and logic that can give Salva Kiir or anyone rights to intimidate/detent or confine other South Sudanese for not knowing what this South Sudanese is thinking or may be thinking in future, for fear. Your comparison is nonsense Malong is not any of those in person, region or history.

        Mapuor,
Good observation. Malong ran away with about $10m and close to 260 armed nyors. He didn’t officially handover his office and wanted to be above the law. He is a fugitive and must be apprehended like a criminal. Such lawlessness must not be tolerated. Good that the kiirminal has muzzled him like some terrier dog 🐶 and can’t rebel. He’s used to lavish lifestyle and can’t go to bush
