December 4, 2015 (JUBA) - The leadership of the faction of South Sudan’s governing Sudan People’s liberation Movement (SPLM) allied to president Salva Kiir announced on Friday a plan to hold the first extraordinary convention after it has been repeatedly delayed.

“I am hereby informing the SPLM membership and public that there will be first SPLM Extraordinary convention from 12th -14th December 2015,” Bol Makueng, secretary for information, culture and communications announced on Friday.

Makueng, who serves as the deputy minister of education in the government, said the venue of the conference will be at Nyakuron Culture Centre in the national capital, Juba, and the agenda of the convention will be the passing of the SPLM’s basic documents.

These basic documents, he said, are the constitution, manifesto, rules and regulations. The official explained that “invitation letters are on the way to the invited people.”

He did not clarify whether the extraordinary convention will be attended by all representatives of the three factions of the SPLM in accordance with the reunification agreement which the parties had signed in the Tanzanian town of Arusha last year, or only the faction allied to president Salva Kiir will convene the meeting despite the absence of the secretary general of the ruling party, Pagan Amum Okiech, and members of the SPLM in Opposition led by the former party’s first deputy chairman, Riek Machar.

It is also unclear whether the former detainees who have returned with Rebecca Nyandeng, wife of late John Garang de Mabior, founding leader of the SPLM, will participate in the meeting and discussions.

The Arusha reunification agreement is not complete as the factions need to agree on the way forward in regards to the basic documents of the ruling party.

It’s back to the position in December 2013 before Kiir’s massacre started the pointless civil war.

Two years of revenge killings. Kiir has destroyed unit in South Sudan. Kiir has thrown away international friends.

      What was the purpose?

Hi all feel free nothing will happened again this year. It is going to be the normal business of the party. Better to be united than staying disunited and killing others. Talking helps in all cases.
feel free Son of Ngundeng, you can come to Juba now it is safe and going to be safe for you every day despite your limited manners.

SPLM-IO sincerelly must stop opposing government nonsensical unilateral steps and focus on its own business to democratise and progress South Sudan otherwise they risk being equated on the same line.

This announcement are nonsense. IO should focus on its delegates coming to Juba and subsequent arrival of the chairman and form government. Masses are suffering everywhere in the country ....

... and the hope lies with not with the failed government but with IO to bring needed change and the nation breathes again.

Who cares about Kiir’s factional SPLM convention since already the war and the killing had clearly not only nationally but internationally been defined as the Kiir’s own making "state policy of his government" to launch this war?

The moment they announce nonsense in Juba,..

.. and the SPLM -IO be quick to condemn and oppose them, they moment they feel great as sort of doing something!

IO please don’t oppose their convention this time, just look at them and concentrate on mobilizing peripheries and you cruise to winning the 2018 elections. The convention believe it or not will have no head way..

Please please SPLM-IO stop opposing everything from these known failure. They don’t have single strength to follow up and deliver. Just concentrate on your own programs of putting together this country. No doubt comes 2018,IO commands significant majority over 90 per cent of Equatorian votes and over 50% in Graeter Upper Nile and that will be enough to swift them into victory....

IO - don’t waste time please to lend a single ear about Kiir’s nominated puppets from Equatoria. Equatorians had history of angry votes against wills of their leaders ever since. Their votes are not controlled by interests from their leaders like Dinkas, Nuers & Chollo. It will be out of mind for sane individual to think they will vote for Kiir as he had been busy butchering them ....

Anything associated with Riek Machar can’t democratically or militarily win in South Sudan. You will live to see it.
