Belgium, Sudan sign loan to improve water supply

February 24, 2016 (KHARTOUM) – Belgium Wednesday signed a loan agreement of 551,000 euro with the Sudanese government to provide 1,200 water pumping stations to ten states.

From the Sudanese side, the deal was signed by Mona Abu Haraz, the under-secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and Belgian Ambassador to Egypt and Sudan representing his government.

The current loan is an addition to a previous loan at 3,750,000 euro signed in 2014, to supply several states with submersible pumps for drinking water.

Abu Haraz stressed her government’s interest in developing economic cooperation between the two countries, praising the efforts of Belgian government to support development and service sectors, particularly in water, education, and essential services sector.

“We look forward to further support and technical assistance from Belgium,” she further said.

The Belgian ambassador also expressed his country’s keenness to develop bilateral relations. Also, he mentioned the Belgium Technical School in 1981 and pledged provide more assistance to this establishment, besides installing and maintaining water pumps for training and operating purposes.
