5th infantry division commander vows to protect Wau state citizens

January 04, 2016 (WAU) – The new commander of the army’s 5th infantry division in Wau newly created Wau state Maj. Gen. Thayip Gatluak has assured citizens of full protection.

wau_map_afp.jpg“For my arrival from Division four to Division five to you my relatives in Wau town, I want to tell you that [there should be] no fear again. I heard that there was fear in the town due to some insecurity, but now do not fear again,” said Gatluak.

“I have come, I came with peace and prosperity. Don’t fear, there is nothing, do not fear at all, your protection is my responsibility, protection of Wau is my responsibility,” he said.

Gatluak was speaking Monday at Wau military headquarters Garinti after receiving a gift of three bulls for the army from the community, Gatluak said since his arrival before the end of last year, no insecurity case had been reported in the whole of Wau town.

“Since I arrived in Wau, I feel very happy, the arrival of Division five in Wau means the protection of people of Wau. I thank the people of Wau that since the December South Sudan’s violence broke out, people of Wau have been in peace with one another,” he said.

“I also thank you very much for your gift that you have offered to us. The bulls you gave us are good, this is a gift from God to us, I thank you very much,” Gatluck added.

The communities were led by ex-state peace and reconciliation advisor, Ayeil Longar, ex-Wau town deputy mayor Santino Manut and the manager of Wau Tiger hotel, Agoth Agany.
