Isam Adam Abdeljabar, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen, at nearly 4 kilometres away from UNAMID’s site in Nertiti on 21 July 2015.

Abdeljabar "was freed by his kidnappers near the same team site this afternoon". said the hybrid mission in a statement released on Sunday evening.

The statement further said that the Sudanese worker was taken to the team site’s clinic to undergo a medical examination.

"He appears to be unharmed and in good health," it further said.

The UNAMID head of mission, Abiodun Bashua, commended Abdeljabar’s bravery during his five-day detention.

Bashua "also commended the efforts of all those who facilitated the release of the staff member," said the joint mission.

The statement didn’t elaborate about the facilitators who contributed to secure the release of the abducted worker.
