The order is treated as provisional order number (1) 2015, cited as a directive prohibiting of fuel sale in black markets and that it would come into force with immediate effect.

“In accordance to section 57 read together with section 40 of local government Act 2009, I Elia Kamilo Dimo, Mayor of Wau Municipal council do hereby issue the following provisional orders,” partly reads the order, a copy of which Sudan Tribune obtained.

According to the order, selling of fuel in black markets is prohibited and any fuel station or individual working in fuel stations selling fuel in black markets commits an offense and could, upon conviction, face life imprisonment or pay a fine of up to SSP 10, 000.

Last week, Wau town municipal council authorities said its security personnel seized 68 fuel barrels of fuel from night smugglers who intended to benefit from the black market.

Three Somalia nationals operating a fuel station in Wau were arrested and ordered to, within 24 hours, leave Wau town on allegations of promoting sale of fuel in the black market.

After the fuel shortage in Wau, operating stations were reserved only for government use and business people, but station managers turned to the black market to make profits.
