Sudanese FM praises china’s support

KHARTOUM, Aug 16, 2004 (SUNA) — The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail has praised China’s supporting stances toward the Sudan at the regional and international forums.

Dr. Ismail also commended China’s second batch of humanitarian assistance to Darfur states, amounting to 5 million yuan, reiterating Sudan’s strong support toward the unity of China.

Dr. Ismail said to SUNA following meeting between President Al-Bashir and the special envoy of the Chinese President, Mr. Lu Guozeng, at the Guest House here Monday that the message of the Chinese President, Hu Jintao, to President Al-Bashir touched on the current developments in Darfur and the situation in the Security Council as well as the Chinese point of view in this regard.

Dr. Ismail added that the visit of the Chinese official is a good opportunity for China to get acquainted with the real situations in Darfur and the efforts being exerted by the government of Sudan to solve the crisis as well.

The visit would also allow the Chinese government and its envoy in the UN to adopt stances supporting to Sudan, if the issue of Darfur is presented once again at the Security Council, Dr. Ismail said.

The minister also referred to the distinguished relations between Sudan and China in the trade and economic fields.
