Sudan condemns deadly mosque attack in Saudi Arabia

August 7, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese foreign ministry on Friday condemned the suicide blast which targeted a mosque in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern city of Abha stressing Khartoum’s support for Riyadh in its war against terrorism and fundamentalism.

A suicide bomber killed at least 15 people in the attack on the mosque that is used by members of a local security force on Thursday.

The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility in the latest series of attacks targeting mosques in Saudi Arabia.

In May, two suicide bomb attacks on Shi’ite Muslim mosques in Saudi Arabia were claimed by ISIS. The first targeted a mosque in Qatif in the east of the kingdom that killed 21 worshippers, and another four died in a bombing a week later at a mosque in Dammam.

Another bombing claimed by ISIS on a Shi’ite mosque in Kuwait in June killed 27 people.

Sudan said that it has “followed with rage and anger the horrible terrorist attack against the innocent worshippers in the mosque of the Emergency Forces in the town of Abha….that led to the martyrdom of fifteen innocent elements of the force”.

It stressed that Sudan stands by the side of the sister Saudi Arabia in its war against terrorism and fundamentalism and supports all actions undertaken by the kingdom to fight back all attempts that seek to undermine the Saudi security, stability and social cohesion.

The statement said Sudan was confident that such desperate attempts would not weaken the resolve of Saudi Arabia and its wise leadership to continue with their efforts for the prevalence of security and stability in all areas of the kingdom.
