Kiir, in an executive order Sudan Tribune obtained, appointed Henry Kuany Aguar as the new director for prisons and correctional services in the country’s interior ministry. He replace Abel Makoi who was sacked last week.

The South Sudanese leader, in a separate decree, appointed Gregory Thiep Akol as the new commissioner general for the fire brigade, succeeding the sacked Aru Manchot.

Others were Samir Khamis Suleiman, promoted to major general was appointed deputy head of prisons and corrections while Abdun Akec Maker, who was also promoted to major general became the country’s deputy commissioner general for the fire brigade.

Although no reasons were given for the changes, some officials claimed Kiir wanted to break a year-long infighting over the manner in which police departments functioned.

Another decree also saw seven national police officers promoted to the ranks of lieutenant generals from the rank of major general. Among those promoted were, Augustino Maduok Parek, head of immigration and Mikaya Modi Lubajo, the head of customs. Others are the current Western Bahr el Ghazal state police commissioner, Abraham Manyuat, Joseph Lako Lado, Moses Majok Adol, Majak Arol Kachuol and Mayom Deng Biar.

Speaking at a police thanks-giving ceremony, the inspector general of police, Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol urged the new officers to promote a people-friendly environment.

“This promotion comes with responsibilities and hard work. Whenever there is change in roles and duties, expect changes in strategies”, he told the newly promoted officers.

He urged the officers to exhibit leadership and take prompt actions against criminals.
