SPLM-N rebels claim responsibility for killing 4 government soldiers in Blue Nile

February 10, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) claimed that four government soldiers were killed in an ambush on the road linking Kurmuk to the capital of Blue Nile state, Ed-Damazin, on Monday.

SPLM-N spokesperson, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, said their forces inflicted another defeated against government forces active in the Blue Nile state within the Decisive Summer campaign which was launched by the government several months ago.

Lodi pointed the SPLM-N ambushed the government army in the area which lies between towns of Sita Kilo and Sali north of Kurmuk along the road linking Kurmuk to Damazin.

In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune Lodi emphasised that four government soldiers were killed in the ambush including Emir (commander) of the Mujahideen (holy fighters) by the name of Bakri Hussein.

He said their forces also destroyed three military vehicles and seized another one in a good condition besides 10 Kalashnikov rifles, one Dushka (12.7 mm) cannon and one PKM machine gun.

Lodi pointed the SPLM-N patrol force clashed with government forces in Angasana Hills in two battles, saying that four government troops were killed in the battles and five others taken hostages including an army officer.

The statement also mentioned that SPLM-N seized five Land Cruiser vehicles and destroyed three others besides seizing four Kalashnikov rifles in a good condition.

Lado further said the government army is fighting a losing war like the wars which it continued to fight since the 1989 coup d’état which brought president Omer al-Bashir to power.

Sudanese army spokesperson was not available for comment.

Since 2011 the SPLM-N have fought the Sudanese army and their aligned militias in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.

Three staff of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) were killed on Sunday in an attack in Blue Nile state where the Sudanese army is battling the rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North (SPLM-N) since 2011.

The attack happened as the staff were returning from the town of Kurmuk after distributing humanitarian aid to the needy in the area.
