August 2, 2014 (ADDIS ABABA) – The entire leadership of the US branch of South Sudan’s ruling party (SPLM) officially declared on Saturday that they are switching allegiance to the country’s rebel movement led by former vice-president Riek Machar, calling for regime change through military means.

Along with the SPLM-US national secretariat, the chairpersons of 10 branch offices across the US have also collectively joined the rebel movement.

In a press statement extended to Sudan Tribune, the SPLM party leadership in the US said they made the decision following a painstaking process to evaluate the various political scenarios facing the young nation and its ongoing deterioration in recent months.

In the statement put out to notify South Sudanese diaspora communities of the decision, the SPLM-US praised Machar as a “pioneer” and “charismatic” leader.

They also accuse president Salva Kiir of unleashing a “tsunami” of injustice, insecurity, inequality, rampant corruption, nepotism and tribalism on the country, saying such issues had come to represent the values of the SPLM/A.

They called on all concerned South Sudanese citizens, including members of the legislative assembly, the national army (SPLA) and diaspora communities to join the struggle to topple the central government through military means, saying Kiir’s swift removal was vital to preventing the country was disintegrating into separate independent regions.

The SPLM-US has urged the international community to stand behind the people of South Sudan in their struggle for regime change in order to bring a lasting peace and stability to the country, also calling for a probe into the alleged massacre of civilians in the capital, Juba, based on their ethnicity in the conflict’s early stages.

“Based on our understanding through genuine discussions, we are not keenly going to sit back leaving [our] notorious president and his political associates to get away with the committed horrendous crimes and injustices without involving the rule of laws and justices,” the statement added.

The defection of the entire SPLM leadership in the US delivers a major blow to Juba, particularly given the fact that the US-based branch is the largest and among the most politically active.

Kiir is among 50 African heads of state and government currently in Washington to attend a US-Africa summit.

These are individuals and not the entire SPLM leaders in US. The rebels are working hard to confuse South Sudanese and the world again. They are not even in the SPLM leadership in US.

The article states that "the entire SPLM leadership in US joins rebels...." and only 10 states are listed! what a bias! Sudan Tribune is losing its credibility. What about the HQ chapter in DC? What about chapters in Georgia, Florida, Carolinas, Maine, Dakotas, Texas and etc.... This article is clearly made up.

Aren’t these nuer ashame of themselves. Why can’t they just say that we nuer forks in USA have placed our support on riek machar as our nuer president. Whether kiir resign today or not we never allow riek to become president of south sudan. There are thousands of sound minded nuer people that become south sudan president. RIek descent power would promote rebellion of unimaginable scale.

I congrats the entire south sudan citizens who’s residing in USA for their courageous decisions to follow Splm IO lead by dr machar, I also encourage other countries to follow the example that has been taken by USA. Kiir regime is in final day of collapsing, so I advice dinka brothers to think twice for supporting a blind man. South sudan does not belong to kiir or whoever thinking like kiir.

I congratulate the SPLM national and state leaders in USA for declaring support to visionary, charismatic and democratic leader Dr.Riek Machar. Looking at the names, majority are not Nuer and this is what nationalism and patriotism is truly is. Now these individuals are not just individuals but leaders with big crowd behind them. What is left now for the crumbling government in Juba is Nothing.

Folks, for your information, there are no South-Sudanese Nuers in United States, only Nuer Ethiopia are the one barking to be Southsudanese claimed to switch their side. When did they become SPLA supporters when their live stories during process to come to America, were about SPLA Dinka killing them. It is a fact that can not be denied.

The Dinkas hate Nuer because the Nuer Warriors Knows the RSS belong to all South Sudan tribes not to Dinkas tribe only that right now dominated all position in Government of the RSS and they are trying to form The Dinka Kingdom. Everywhere you go in South Sudan you will see
