July 27, 2014 (ADDIS ABABA) – The Ethiopian government on Sunday dismissed allegations that it was providing support to opposition forces led by South Sudanese former vice-president Riek Machar.

Last week, Gordon Buay, an unofficial South Sudan army (SPLA) spokesperson claimed Addis Ababa was allegedly providing medical treatment to wounded opposition fighters in its Gambela region.

He specifically cited the recent clashes between government forces over control of Upper Nile’s key town of Nasir, alleging that rebels wounded in the battle found their way to Gambella town for medical aid.

“More than 54 wounded rebels are being treated in Gambella right now”, claimed Buay in a statement.

He urged the Ethiopian government to respect the border security agreement signed with Juba in 2010, and keep wounded rebels out of their territory.

“Therefore, the Ethiopian government must implement the agreement by preventing wounded rebels to have access to hospitals in Ethiopia, particularly in Gambella region,” further noted the statement.

Officials from Gambela could not easily be reached for reactions on the matter.

A senior Ethiopian government official, however, dismissed Buay’s claims that South Sudanese rebels were allegedly receiving support from the East African country or using its territory to distabilise the new nation.

Addis Ababa has never been partisan to any of the conflicting parties in South Sudan, Dina Mufti, Ethiopia’s foreign affairs spokesperson told Sudan Tribune o Sunday.

He however said Ethiopia was only providing the necessary assistance to any South Sudanese refugees crossing into its borders irrespective of their political position on humanitarian grounds.

Mufti reiterated that Ethiopia would continue to extend support aimed at finding political solution to the seven month-old conflict in South Sudan.

“As a chair of IGAD [Inter-governmental Authority on Development] and as a closest friend of people of South Sudan, Ethiopia is doing its level best to bring lasting peace in south Sudan,” said Mufti.

Ethiopia, which is considered as neutral country by South Sudan’s warring factions, has been hosting the peace negotiations since January this year.

REBELS DISMISS ALLEGATIONS

Meanwhile, members of the SPLM in Opposition in Addis Ababa described as “fabricated” accusations that Ethiopia supported their military struggle.

The IGAD-led South Sudan Peace negotiations are due to resume on July 30 in Addis Ababa following its suspension for nearly a month.

According to the East African regional bloc, the agenda of the next session will be to finalise and sign the cessation of hostilities matrix and negotiation on details of the transitional government of national unity.

I never taught this mentally insane boy we know personally would be listened to by the government of South Sudan. When did he became a general from being a student at university of Ottawa? He never been in army before. His father who we know, Malek is right to say this boy will never listen to anybody. The same boy who said if he has the power he will kill and sell all Dinkas is Dinka favorite now

        Ayiui Makuach,

You are a fool that bites a hand that feeds you. How come you accuse Sudan and Kenya of supporting the rebels when Sudan has not stopped your oil from going through its pipeline and Kenya has not yet cut you off from using its Port Mombasa. Actually it helped you by bringing weapons last month. Shame on you! Don’t provoke them to act against your failed government.

      Readers,

Buay Reath or Buay Malek or Buay Nyakiel is neither a soldier (officer) nor official spokesperson of Kiir’s government.

The guy is insane. I happen to come from his same home county of Ulang. He will spoil the government further using his UNCIVILIZED arguments.

Ethiopia has the right to treat any South Sudanese wounded soldier or supporter of either side on humanitarian grounds.

Please read Buay’s 2011 insane public YouTube statement in which he declared himself president that he removed Kiir whom he insulted BADLY. He publicly lied that parliament elected him as interim president to lead the country after independence until elections were held. Read it and see how Kiir is equally insane to allow this flip-flopping mad boy to spoil him.

I say again dat let’s go to Addis to have some fun only to watch Dr Hopeless Riek forge a patronizing smile and looks presidential. Those who support Dr Hopless Riek have no idea about what they r doing. If we were all to surrender to Khartoum in 1991 and nobody remained in the bush to forgive Riek in 2002, would there be RSS where Riek is playing his leadership game now?

Why would a PhD holder like Dr Hopeless Riek keep switching sides at his disposal? Why did he abandon SPLM/A in 1991, claiming dat the movement was not democratic? Was there no democracy or federalism in Khartoum where she signed her KHARTOUM OIL AGREEMENT/KOA- 1997 before returning again to undemocratic movement to be forgiven in 2002 in Nairobi, Kenya?

No smoke without fire. Ethiopia and Sudan unlike Uganda have been playing double-standard game. On one hand they are for Juba government, on the other hand they support rebels. They have to stay neutral or come out on one side like Uganda.

We do know the Nuers of Gambela region have said, they will help by reconnect Rebel leader with Ethiopian leaders but what goes around will come around you. If we ask Oppositions from Ethiopia to make base in S.Sudn we can do it.
