Local authorities say that the inhabitants are residing illegally in the area and they do not have proof that they own the land on which they built their houses.
The four protesters who were wounded included MP Hamid Idris, who was beaten by the police after being seen aiding some of the injured.
Hamid said that police used excessive force against the residents particularly when the bulldozers were demolishing their houses in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
An eyewitness said that police used tear gas to disperse the protesters who obstructed the bulldozers, adding that they threw tear bombs inside the houses to force the residents to move out.
