July 7, 2013 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit, has relieved Taban Deng Gai from the governorship of Unity state.

Unity State Governor Taban Deng Gai speaks to the media in Bentiu, November 15, 2011 (ST)

Deng has been the governor of the Unity state since his appointment in 2005 and was re-elected in April 2010 elections.

He is the second elected governor to be relieved by a presidential decree after Chol Tong Mayay of Lakes state. Officials in Lakes state said Tong was seen to be closer to the vice-president, Riek Machar.

Kiir has appointed Joseph Nguen Minytuil as Unity state’s caretaker governor.

In a presidential decree issued today, Kiir did not explain the reason for removal of an elected governor.

There have been rumors that the two have fallen out recently as Deng, member of politburo of the ruling pary, SPLM, has opposed to additional term for president Kiir.

The party Secretary General, Pagan Amum, on Friday criticized the president’s decree which suspended the minister of finance, Kosti Manibe Ngai, saying it was politically motivated as Manibe was seen to have been opposed to Kiir’s bid for a third term.

Amum said Manibe was not responsible for the transfer of nearly $8 million allegedly transferred to a bank account abroad per request by former minister Deng Alor Kuol.

The party top administrator warned that such action of relieving officials based on political motivation may generate tensions and even violence.

The South Sudanese constitution allow the president of the republic to relieve the elected governor on national security grounds, but provides that a new election should be organised within 60 days.

President Kiir last January removed Lakes state elected governor, Chol Tong Mayay, on the ground of inter-communal clashes, but the interim appointed governor Matur Chut Dhuol is still in place since six months.

What happened to that concerted friendship that was know all over the world. Truth is coming alive again. Why not replace him with Angelina Teny, the choice of the people?

I like Kiir’s madness because this marks the end of his leadership. The prophesies of Ngundeng are coming true. Kiir will not reach even 2014 leave alone 2015. And he will lose his legacy for sure. The man is cursed with devilish advisors plus his evil spirit.

When the elephants fight, the grass suffer. We hope politicians exercise wisdom as they begin to wrangle over money and power which does not reach the poor civilians in any way. We hope the population of South Sudan doesn’t get dragged into conflict since they don’t have anything to do with the mess in Juba. Many of them are ready to fight border but not among themselves.

I believe the people of Unity State are the ones who should have that right to fire their own governor; I don’t see any reason why the president should have that power over the people of Unity State! The same application applied to all ten States of South Sudan. It’s the people’s government and not the president government.

We the people of South Sudan should learn a very good lesson from the people of Egypt. The Egyptian people proved to the whole world that they own the power in Egypt and they have the right to appoint and fire their president if he or she is not up to people expectation.

Mach, according to our present constitution , the president has power to fire and appoint a choice of interest. Most of the governors are about to lose their positions soon or later, yes we are heading toward democracy but while there are those disturbing the rule of law and abusing power must go . I do agree with100% that we should leave those elected but we do not have limitation any way .

Kiir has waisted a lot of time keeping thieves in public offices. And since our constitution is fashioned in such a way that the president has rights to remove the corrupt officials, then the move of removing the towering thief of our state is an answer to 9 years call to have him exit. For those of you who have benefited unfairly on the expense of our citizens must realize that he is gone.

Salva Kiir is a brain-dead sap. If the people of South Sudan spoke with one voice, this is what they would say: For the sake of our lives, our pride, the expended blood of our martyrs, the cries of our children and the strength of our forefathers... STEP DOWN NOW as President. You are not fit to be our Sovereign representative! You are an accident! The consequence of the death of a great man.

Not only should the SPLM convention be held... the Presidential nomination process should be changed. Our current system -mirroring that of the Westminster Nations- is not very democratic, as it confers undue advantage to the incumbent; we should have a system very much similar to the one in place in the United States, in which multiple candidates from the same party can run for President.

Salva Kiir has unfortunately been President since 2005 — and by 2015, his tenure will have reached a decade; a decade in which virtually nothing has been achieved in terms of economic management, infrastructure, services delivery, health, National defence and the widespread insecurity and rampant corruption afflicting our country. Why then does he think we should give him another term?

    Dear All readers
These comments above most of them are lies because those who have been removed from the work by President Kiir are comments here in this website together with their close relatives who were looted the money with them. Look at their comments and read them carefully you will find one person posted about 13 comments like Rommel and others this is showed that these groups are fighting for their stomachs and not for the people of South Sudan. Kiir have no mistaken he is really a good leader and humble man not a greedy you can follow the man through his early stories not one day story that is where you will find the real nature of a person and Kiir is a humble and patient leader since in struggled time and up to now plus Wani Igga the one who gave his seat to Defector DR food lover Riek Machar during his coming back from Khartoum it is showed also that Wani Igga is a humble person. So the removed of Governor of Unity State is a request of people of Unity State. and what I see here in South Sudan is different things because those who are holding big position in the government are saying liars to the public saying all mistake are made by President Kiir and they are forgetting that we are looking at them because when a anti - corruption revealed the number of those who looted the $4 billion the number is reached to seventy five people that showed many people and not one person and the foolish people are still telling the liars to the world so we are here in South Sudan we will see your stubbornness

For example, Nuer commanders who defected from SPLA, whenever decided to go back to SPLA they always massacre Nuer terribly so they get good credit in the SPLA. Gatdet did this.
