March 5, 2013 (BOR) - The governor of Jonglei state, Kuol Manyang Juuk, announced on Monday that he was relieving three longstanding county commissioners from their positions with immediate effect.

The commissioners effected by the decision are Goi Jooyul Yoal of Akobo, Isaac Kuach Duoth of Nyirol, and James Maluit Ruach of Fangak.

Governor Manyang has declined to speak publicly on his reasons for the move, preferring to announce the treble sacking through a press statement released from his office.

There are rumours in Jonglei that youth from the counties, which lost their commissioner are conducting a series of meetings to discuss how to respond. Sudan Tribune has learnt from sources at the meetings that peaceful demonstrations are planned to lobby the governor to change his decree.

Appointed soon after the 2010 general elections, the three commissioners have had to deal with a series of attacks in their counties, starting with George Athor’s rebellion in 2010 and 2011, as well as from forces loyal to General Tanginya and David Yauyau’s rebellion.

Sudan Tribune contacted some of the commissioners by phone on Tuesday, but a bad connection made it impossible to quote any of them.

Wang, Tong Dut does not sounds like a foreigner. He is insane. He does not know what he is talking about. Anyone who preaches hate is an enemy of South Sudan. I feel sorry for people I think are educated and talk like little kids who are learning how to talk. It is indeed a waste of time to make useless comments on very important issues pertaining to peace and unity of our people.

Nuer Empire, if the governonr’s reason to relief the two commisioners is on the basis of insecurity, therefore he has mistaken. What power did the commissioners have to fend off the attack of Yau Yau’s insurgents. There has to be something else. Let me hope that his decision has nothing to do with the insecurity in two counties. Thanks.

He better be careful about making his decision on who should be the next commissioner of each county.
