March 5, 2013 (BOR) - The governor of Jonglei state, Kuol Manyang Juuk, announced on Monday that he was relieving three longstanding county commissioners from their positions with immediate effect.

The commissioners effected by the decision are Goi Jooyul Yoal of Akobo, Isaac Kuach Duoth of Nyirol, and James Maluit Ruach of Fangak.
Governor Manyang has declined to speak publicly on his reasons for the move, preferring to announce the treble sacking through a press statement released from his office.
There are rumours in Jonglei that youth from the counties, which lost their commissioner are conducting a series of meetings to discuss how to respond. Sudan Tribune has learnt from sources at the meetings that peaceful demonstrations are planned to lobby the governor to change his decree.

Appointed soon after the 2010 general elections, the three commissioners have had to deal with a series of attacks in their counties, starting with George Athor’s rebellion in 2010 and 2011, as well as from forces loyal to General Tanginya and David Yauyau’s rebellion.
Sudan Tribune contacted some of the commissioners by phone on Tuesday, but a bad connection made it impossible to quote any of them.
