February 2, 2013 (RUMBEK) – South Sudan ruling party (SPLM) officials in Lakes state are divided, following the controversial appointment of Mabor Ater Dhuol, as acting secretary.

Daniel Awet Akot, the SPLM chairperson for Lakes state, appointed Dhuol in September last year, in a move the party’s state liberation council rejected, describing it as “unlawful”.

The council, accuse Akot, who is also the deputy speaker of South Sudan National Assembly, of making the decision without consulting other party members.

Last Friday, however, a ceremony organised by the SPLM chairperson to swear in the acting secretary for the party failed, after party members objected, saying they do not recognise his appointment.

Sudan Tribune could not get a comment from the deputy speaker over the matter.

Meanwhile, the party’s liberation council in Lakes state have petitioned South Sudan President, Salva Kiir, also chairperson of the SPLM, over the controversial appointment, by Akot, of the new state secretary.

In the letter, a copy of which Sudan Tribune obtained, the 51-member council openly accused their chairperson of allegedly managing party affairs "single handedly" without consulting others.

The 25 January petition, for instance, claims Akot chased away the duly recognised acting party secretary, Malou Moses Majok, and instead “imposed” Dhuol during an experience-sharing meeting the SPLM national secretariat conducted with the Norwegian Labour Party on 7 January.

“With these few accounts, we humbly bring this to your attention in the spirit of patriotism and comradeship and we pray and hope that our heroic party [SPLM] shall remain united and prosperous under your able leadership,” partly reads the petition, also copied to the country’s Vice President Riek Machar, among other senior party officials.

Awet Akot is not a dictator. Do you know why SPLM council comprise 51 members are insisting objecting Mabor Ater Dhuol. They need Chol Tong Mayay to be chairperson of SPLM in the state. What do you think over that, 51 members are making coup secretely, because Chol Tong was promise of gift to each of everyone through 14 million got lost in goverment account.

This uncivilised man called Awet Akot has to choose, either deputy speakership or local politics. He was a governor before and mess up everything, one case is the burning of old sudanese dinnar in Rumbek after collected from civilians this is enough for Lakes citizens to put his political career into rest otherwise Lakes has no real politicians.

Both thugs who are struggling to get or maintain the post of State SPLM secretary are not SPLM members.Mabor Ater just passed through SPLA liberated areas from Wau army garrison to Akot airstrip where he flew to Nairobi and then to Australia. He is a primitive with marks on his forehead which are signs of uncivilized person.Moses Malou is a Khartoumer who only came to SPLA liberated areas latel

Awet Akot insistence that Mabor Ater should be SPLM secretary is completely wrong and its a recipe to SPLM breakdown in the State.Awet should not think that the state is his own farm where he can do anything he likes.

You have already described Mabor Ater as a primitive, that is enough to disqualify him to be the Lakes State SPLM secretary despite the forehead marks

As one of the SPLM members present during the arrival of the State SPLM Chairperson & the Secretary on Friday, I can testify that there was neither any attempted swearing-in nor unrest as alleged in this news article.
A certain anti-SPLM group, disguising as SPLM members, have as usual called their journalist, paid him as usual and instructed him to write these lies.

I know those fools they are planning to get Mangui (Chol) as their Chairperson and that will not be succeeded.
