January 12, 2013 (RUMBEK) - The Commissioner of Rumbek North County in Lakes State, Stephen Mathiang Deng, on Saturday denied allegations that young men from his county participated in an attack on a Unity State police car on Thursday.

“Rumbek North County is not [a] recycle bin or [a] dustbin for Unity state to shift in their problems", the Commissioner said, adding that his county has itself experienced several attacks carried out by pastoralists from Unity State.

He said he believed those responsible for the attack on the police car were from within Unity State.

"Our youth never stood behind such attack because they were all disarmed and Unity state youth are still having large number of arms and they are common in cattle raiding and road robbery."

Unity state is accountable for it own mess,” he added

He further disclosed that he heard reports that Unity State was organizing attacks toward Lakes State "by sending police forces to Madol payam of Rumbek North without permission".

"People are being killed on roads ambushes and cattle are being raided and Unity State government is not cooperating with Lakes state government”, he said, citing a incident last week were he alleged the raiders from Unity State killed two people.

Madol is part of Rumbek North, he said. "It is not a part of Unity State."

"What makes Unity State to send in police while it is not part of their administration?" he asked.

The commissioner further claimed there are a lot of suspected criminals from Unity state who are moving around Rumbek North, adding that some "bandits dressed as SPLA [South Sudan army] have stopped cars and beat-up those inside".

The situation, he added, remains "tense" and that people live "in fear".

The South Sudan armed forces and police in the area "are becoming unsuccessful" at managing the security situation, Deng said.

I won’t overly call the Nuers nyagateens, for i am from both the Bor & Nuer parents & so do others; some people in our communities just always want to brand others, nyagateens. For in 1994, i was with my brother who was killed in Kapoeta, in EES & i was badly injured in rear New Kapoeta & i was very young by then. We captured Kapoeta then, but the enemy regroup in New Kapoeta. This is EES state...

        Tutbol,
Absolutely sir, Nuer society don’t deserved to be branded ’Nyagateen’, or traitors in that case. I share blood with Nuer, I love them. However, I don’t spare any traitor from any tribe be it Dinka, Nuer, Equatoria. The truth is there were traitors from all tribe during the war with North and even now.

..the EES kingmaker purportedly hails from EES! But by then few EES residents were seen in Jamuz2, if at all they were in other battalions, but Kapoeta was in their own tuft. But now his likes are out of the wood claiming, being first English speakers, which he proves, the dumbest of his own people.
I don’t think any Dinkas & Nuers would want anyone lands, but all our communities want is justice.

You are right, gar nyamar, Not whole tribe is good or bad, there are wrong as well as right elements in every tribe. Our young writers who just come from cattlecamp to websites do not know this. People divert from point to tribal issues. God helps you jesh amr, we need to balance our ideas

Mr. Commissioner, if I were you I could have issued not that statement. How comes that you guarantee the attack to have not been perpetruate by your people when criminal records in your county and that of your neighbor are at worst? The point is, there is insecurity along Unity-Lakes states border and any crime must be a collective responsiblity of both rather than being a game of accuse and blame
