Aweil community contributes money to support South Sudan army

January 6, 2013 (JUBA) – Aweil community of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state who reside in Juba on Sunday contributed nearly 200,000 South Sudanese pounds ($70,000) to the national army, the SPLA, in defence of the state’s territories.

The fundraising ceremony was organized at Nyekuron Culture center in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Majak D’Agoot, who expressed the army’s readiness to defend the territorial integrity of the country.

A cross section of the Aweil society including business people, government officials and employees of non-governmental organizations contributed the money. They called on the army to defend the Mile 14 and other contested areas which are claimed by the government of Sudan.

It is to be recalled that the state government of Northern Bhar el Ghazal was opposed to the September 27 cooperation agreement signed between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his Sudanese counterpart, Omer Hassan Al-Bashir which gave Mile 14 borderland to Sudan as part of the temporary security deal to create a buffer zone between the two countries.

The minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment, Garang Diing Akuong, who also hails from Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, during the occasion urged the Aweil community to support the South Sudanese team which negotiates with the Sudanese counterparts, adding that they should not be “stabbed at the back” while negotiating.

Meanwhile the two presidents of Sudan and South Sudan have agreed in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to implement the cooperation agreement without and preconditions attached.

Earlier President Al-Bashir demanded that South Sudan should disarm the rebels of the SPLM-N, which were South Sudan’s former allies during the liberation struggle, before his government could implement the cooperation agreement.

What national army are you talking about? SPLA is not a national army but mainly Dinka militia mixed with few Nuer!
Don’t waste your money, this money will never go to SPLA but already went to thieves pockets and probably transferred to their secrete accounts in Swiss banks!
SPLA won’t defend Mile 14 or Abyei, ready to defend and protect thieves only!

What’s this nonsense you are talking about? The SPLA aren’t like your mailitia forces that only pay blind allegiance to criminal Bashir. It is a recognized national army that restrained your soaring power avarice in South Sudan since 1820. The SPLA, you feebly try to scorn, taught you unforgettable lessons. What about Bashir’s bloated accounts in London & assests in Kuala Lampur since 90s

South Sudan must emulate Israel’s approaches and tactics. Without thagt that the Arab mulatoes, sons of former slaves in Middle East, can give us headache or worse. Cultivate solidarity spirit and no any force on earth will tamper with sovereignty, unless those intending to commit suicide.

      Lotodo Awino,
Negotiators supposed to suggest and present their opinions to both teams. AUHIP shouldn’t impose their will on us or take any RSS land illegally. It is there to brige the gap in negotiations so that both parties in conflict can reach a better deal. We shouldn’t fear our negotiating team won’t betray us. Its a strong team. Our gods of South Sudan are watching at their any decisions.

We need not tax these desert hordes. Taxes are citizen obligations. They claim the current land simply because our forefahters sympathized with them so that their cattle could graze and get water. Should such accord is reached in future, we will them treat as foreigners. You know how host country taxes foreigners. We shall have no mercy anymore to allow these nomads to mess in our land.

How much money you pay to the SPLA, it will never improve their combat capabilities. See what happened in Abyei and Higlig. Get rid of these illiterate corrupt villagers called generals, then go for new recruits all over the South. Concentrate in Equatoria,WBGS,Unity and Upper Nile States.

Combat capabilities are not improved by more payment alone. Training, types of arms, and being nationalistic are other factors of active combat. More money makes them mercenary forces. The army must bear a national character. Concentrating on some regions or states exposes them crediblity problems, thus miss their mision for defending sovereign state and quell internal crises.
