December 12, 2012 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s national security service has announced to award anyone who will provide information on the culprit (s) who assassinated the political commentator, Isaiah Abraham aka Isaiah Diing Abraham Chan Awuol.

The renowned writer and critic of the government was killed in front of his house by unknown assassins on Tuesday last week.
President Salva Kiir has directed the concerned security organs to investigate the murder and bring the culprits to justice. However, no arrests have been made so far despite the consensus in the cabinet meeting that the murder was an assassination, according to press statement by information minister, Barnaba Marial Benjamin.
In an attempt to find the culprits the national security service on Wednesday announced over the national TV that it has availed an award of $50,000 payable to anybody who will provide reliable information about who were the killers.
The internal security department of the national security service has invited persons with information on the killer of Isaiah Abraham to present the information to the security organ as soon as possible.
The announcement did not elaborate on how to protect the identities of those who may volunteer to provide information. South Sudan’s judicial system has not yet established mechanisms to protect eyewitnesses involved in criminal cases, such as the murder of Isaiah Abraham. In many cases eyewitnesses do not to accept to volunteer in court cases for fear of reprisal.
