December 1, 2012 (RUMBEK) - A group of unidentified gunmen killed two businessmen from neighbouring Unity State at 7am on Saturday morning in Pulkuc, located in western part of Rumbek East County of Lakes state, when the car of a local MP was attacked.

Makuac Adhil MP told Sudan Tribune that a student at Rumbek National Senior secondary school, David Jet Apin, had been driving his car to the South Sudanese capital Juba for repairs, when the incident occurred.

After Jet’s departure from Rumbek to Juba, the MP said he had "no idea" whether he picked people up along the way and it was "a very big surprise", not only that the car was hijacked in Rumbek East County, but that two Nuer men from Unity State had been travelling in the car and were "taken out and killed" by the gunmen.

Rumbek East County Commissioner, David Marial Gumke, said that the “two men were killed and their belongings in the car were also looted”. He said that a thorough investigation will be carried out.

Lakes State’s police department for Criminal Investigation (CID) recorded the incident as a “gang ambush” in its report, which said: the two young men from Nuer of Bentiu were killed were killed at 7am. The dead bodies and another Nuer man who was wounded in the attack have been taken to Lakes State hospital, the police report said.

Commissioner Gumke said the ambush may have been in retaliation for an attack last week that killed the son of the former chief of Rumbek East County, Matur Waro. However, he said that the facts should be established through a thorough investigation.

Why would you just killed those who are about to bring development if people are not crazy and food lovers? But thank God that one of the businessmen is alive otherwise the doom driver knew what he was doing,

This is a bad behavior that should be punished lawfully. Am from Rumbek myself but I condemned this act. This people killed are innocent bussinessmen who have no connection to the first two bussinessmen killed. If authority in Rumbek want to investigate this, let the driver be arrested. There seemed to be connection how did these gunmen know that there are Nuer in the car?

To make sure that such killings should not repeat itself between 2 states, there must be a heavy punishment to those who did it. It is the only solution that can save innocent lives. Today is Unity state to mourn and tomorrow it will be Lakes State to mourn and the innocent people are the victims while murderers are safe and kicking. Whether it is a revenge or not, it has to be punished! period

Greater Upper Nile and Eastern Equatoria are the most insecure places in South Sudan.Death toll in Juba alone records the highest in all South Sudan cities.Jonglei is leading in insecurity, seven were killed recently in Jalie.Lakes is among the peaceful places in Africa.

I totally agree with you nothing can be done, we in Central Equatoria experiencing very day killing no body say something to stop, but we in Equatoria believe it is the political Plan, we don’t have gun, but our only gun is the word of God through the Christ Jesus , every one kill he / she will answer for him self not for party or group of tribe men. Soon they will turn to themselves.

This is so sad n unacceptable. My condolences to the families of the two innocent gentlemen/businessmen fm our state of Unity! This is unacceptable n uncomprehendable practice - this wilful revenge attitude as alleged by Rumbek East County commissioner. Instead talking as this, it is better he peruses these gangs if there r established rumors z it may be those whose brothers were killed in unity.

The local MP and his driver must be investigated. Every life counts! Be it Nuer or fellow Agar. We are all citizens of South Sudan

All the messes and instability that the south is exercising now such as:hijacking, shooting, cattle raiding, theft during the day light, fighting, etc because of the shortage of money and food that suppose to come from north but it didn’t!
Those people have no vision and will continue to hang themselves by their own hands and slowly die!

        Mrs. Master,
We don’t think you’re that smart enough to destroy us; remember, you haven’t done it for the last 20; 25 plus years of this country struggle. South Sudan is now an independent country. What make you think; a lone gunman on the roadside is going to destroy us when you couldn’t do it with the entire SAF army during 25 years of struggle?

Mrs. Master, despite all the agents you disperse all over the states in South Sudan, I don’t think you can achieve anything. South Sudan will still be an independent South Sudan. If you read the article and analyze its intention, you can see the need to create conflict between Nuer and Dinka so that there could be an all-out war between the two largest communities in South Sudan. ----

              - - -We have seen this movie before in the 1990s; this doesn’t appear as something new to us. Did it succeed in that era? No, why? Because South Sudan is now an autonomous country!

We condemn the death as citizens of one SouthSudan, but I want to tell the media that, Lake state has very many different people. This mean, the death of these men might be caused by somebody from different state who has been living in Rumbek with intention of spying these business men. Don’t conclude the allegation to be a lakestate crime.
