Bodyguard of SPLA Major General killed in Juba

November 25, 2012 (JUBA) - A bodyguard of a senior member of South Sudan’s army (SPLA) was killed on Thursday when an unknown gunmen attacked the house of Major General Malek Reuben in the capital Juba.

On Saturday the body of the bodyguard who was killed on Thursday was flown to Rumbek, the capital of Lakes State, where its was met by his family and the Commander of the SPLAs sixth division.

In June another of Reuben’s bodyguards was killed in a similar attack on his house. Police arrested some suspects at the time but they were all released without charge.

So far no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting but SPLA Colonel Wildi Akec urged the relatives of the deceased to remain calm, assuring them that the gunmen will face the law.

Akec said that the second attack showed that June’s attack was "no accident", although he admitted that the army does not know the reason why Major General Malek Reuben is being targeted.

However, he criticized the "neglect" of the police for releasing the suspects originally arrested after July’s incident.

Many people in Lakes State have sent messages of condolence to the family of deceased and urged that justice be done.

    Gentlemen, there is no point of taking this matter as 4 useless discussion. Law must take course or else Gen. Malek has pple to protect him if it becomes clear that someone has intent to take his life. I urge people of Lakes state n in particular in the army to take care. This isn’t Malek alone in target. It could be all Lakes sons! We pple of Lakes state have lost # of our sons in Juba 4 nothing!

    There is no wonder. Those that are trying to handle Mr. Malek are also trying to tackle the entire community of Agar Dinka, the centre of the previous SPLA/M.       O God there are people who want to kill Maj. General Reuben Malek. I am not accepting what that dog is saying it is relatime problem. Actually I know Reuben Malek personally. He is one of the best of the best Maj. General who graduate with honors degree from Baraton University in Eldoret, Kenya. He did electronic engineer packaged to make explosions and bombs.

        During the war, Reuben Malek was in charge of planting and defusing anti personnel and automobile mines. He can make explosion and detonations on cigarettes, pens, phones and etc. He is a walking bombs expert in the history of SPLA, hence, this makes him very prone and being targeted by his enemies. Reuben is the best general and is the brainchild of Sudan Mine Action NGO

          Reuben Malek married the sister to the wife of Mr. Emmanuel Lowila then current Minister in the Office of the President. Malek is the best soldier I have ever met and he is very intelligent and this could be jealousy from the illiterate SPLA generals from Bahr el Ghazal. We need the government to beef up security for Maj Gen. Malek because he is an asset for South Sudan

            My fellow readers, we should be frank enough and I am not related to Reuben but I am from Equatoria and have known Malek for ten years, when he was a soldier and while a student. He has no tribal mind and he is a hard working officer who uses intellect as oppose to emotions which most of Maj. General exhibits. The guy is familiar with modern military and global preditors. He is a bomb warrior.
