Lakes State suspends editor of state radio station

November 13, 2012 (RUMBEK) - The news editor of Radio Rumbek FM-98, John Madol Panther, has been suspended after allowing the broadcast of items that had not been approved, according to Lakes State Minister of Information and Communication, Charles Badiri Mayen.

Panther, was suspended without pay from 9 November, according to Miraya FM, the UN radio station in South Sudan. Miraya FM has reported that he was suspended because he hosted Daniel Awet Akot the Deputy Speaker of South Sudan’s National Legislative Assembly.

While on air, Awet condemned recent fighting in Lakes State which has claimed over 20 lives. Miraya FM reported that a Panther will remain suspended until a disciplinary board looks into the issue.

However, Information Minister Badiri said that allegation broadcast by Radio Miraya are lacked information. He justified Panther’s suspended saying that he had allowed a number of programmes to be broadcast without authorization from his direct boss, Acting Director Peter Maliap Chieng

Badiri described Pather’s suspension as an "administrative procedure and it must continue”. He said that if national MPs and ministers wish to talk on state radio they are accompanied by the state information minister. This was a show of respect, he said, and should not be left to junior staff.

The state minister said that the Acting Director of Radio Rumbek FM-98 had given him information that showed beyond reasonable doubt that Pather should be suspended.

Badiri said that as an editor and not presenter Panther was not allowed to present a program or to host any guest. He was also not supposed to be on duty that night but took over from the presenter to host the Deputy Speaker.

He noted that “necessary measures will be taken against Panther”, adding that “this is the third suspension for Madol in the Ministry apart from explanations and warning letters given to him” by state information ministry.

Despite taking the move the minister said that Lakes State was “friendly” towards any media who wasted to visit South Sudan.

Let alone the internet militia of Warrap State or Aweil. Your hatred will soon cause your own life as God is watching you despite your concealment identity.

The suspension of John Madol Panther was only connected to the fact he hosted Daniel Awet Akot who is the chairman of the SPLM in the state. SPLM secretaries including the minister of information charles Badir have not been in good term with SPLM chiarman for the fact that Awet appointed Mabor Ater Dhuol as state acting secretary against their will.Madol has been hosting many ministers without row

John Madol was suspended because of SPLM differences with the chairman. The party in which Daniel Awet chaired had been denying Awet access to state own radio for the reason best to them. Shame on the minister for giving fales statements.

Uhuuu, suspended without pay becoz he has hosted Awet who is MP in SSLA and Chairman of SPLM at State level, while Awet condemned death of the pple in the State. Those young Ministers will one day close down the all Ministry becoz of inexperience in politics. chaos.

This are policies of Lakes State Governor, He is getting into a situation where he wants to rule with iron fist. This is interference with freedom of speech. From when the ministers or MP are escorted to radio stations. That is a total lies and it even implicate the minister if he monitors the law. We will never developed if such attitudes are not removed. No Room for dictators in this world.

To survive n secure your job in Lakes state (Rumbek), u don’t need to give accurate information. Charles Badiri always gives wrong information and even accepts bribery from hotel managers eg Hill view hotel when a kenyan was claimed to have committed suicide. Sorry

Badiri is a semi-illiterate Minister. He doesn’t even have a basic High School Certificate plus the fact that he is very inexperienced.
Where on earth can a sensible minister expel a radio presenter for allowing a senior government official who also leads the ruling Party in the state?
Badiri is behaving like a mad dog and Gov Chol should sack him instantly or else we will kick u out in 2015!

      Dear Collegues,
Let’s us be constructive when participating in public affairs. It is mentioned here that Mr. John Madol already has two warning and you can’t tell me those warnings are because of Awet! According to my own understanding Mr. Madol seemed not to be respecting the protocol in his work place.
