October 29, 2012 (RUMBEK) - The chairperson of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement Party (SPLM) in Lakes state, Daniel Awet Akot was involved in a dispute on Monday with other state politicians during a meeting to discuss the appointment of Mabor Ater Dhuol, replacing Samuel Mathiang Keer as acting secretary.

The meeting was attended by assistant secretaries of: Culture and Information; Syndicated Affairs; Planning and Research; Political Affairs; and Administration and Finance. The assistant secretary for Organisational Affairs refused to attend in protest against Dhuol’s appointment.

Akot is also deputy speaker for South Sudan’s National Legislative Assembly and member of the powerful SPLM political bureau as well being chairperson of SPLM in Lakes State.

His appointment on 16 September was met with widespread dissent by the Lakes SPLM secretariat.

In a meeting at 10.00am held in the Lakes State SPLM party headquarters, only four assistant secretaries participated; eight county secretaries and their eight chairpersons were expelled by chairperson Akot.

Akot justified his decision to expel them saying that “this meeting is just scheduled for state headquarter secretariat only.”

He also added that he will visit all eight counties of Lakes states, allowing all chairpersons and secretaries to meet with him.

In letter dated 29 October SPLM county chairpersons were ordered to report themselves to their respective places of work.

In 2009 Daniel Awet Akot was elected by 51 members of the Lakes State Liberation Council (SLC) as chairperson of the SPLM in the state. Akot failed in his bid to contend for the 2010 gubernatorial election when the party refused to allow him to run for them.

On Sunday Akot made a surprise trip to visit Lakes State. Upon his arrival in Wulu County he briefed SPLM members on reforms within party secretariats in some counties.

He announced the dismissal of county secretary Akol Muorwel from his post due to his long absence from office.

The SPLM party members explained the difficulties facing the party surrounding transportation and finances. Awet responded by offering them a land cruiser.

Akot made it clear that reform within Lakes State must to be made by dismissing more secretaries at county level or secretariat level. He said that “County chairperson Akol Muorwel will be removed from seat so that smooth administrative monitoring are done on a daily basis.”

“Malou Moses Majok, who was been acting all this time since the death of late Samuel Mathiang will not also sit in this office as acting secretary” added Akot.

If there is no democracy even within a party itself, then party vision is lost. That is why SPLM as a party will fail if there is no cautiousness. How come a chairperson forced somebody who is not seconded by all secretaries of the party? There must be a consideration or decisions of majority who are also members of the party.

      Hi Awet,
SPLM ’S People are not born stupid like you.
      Some people think they are.
Sadly....Most of them are either a Politician or a Religious Fanatic. Its a reasonable question if you need to learn more about it. I cannot go into details (with the character quota in place) yet can summarise this by saying that before state secretary died.

Awet you’re very good on tricks and worse on bring up the true members of the SPLA/M of 1983 to 2005, all eyes of the SPLA senior officers ,NOCS & men who were sidelined are on you .what goes around comes around

It does’t look good at all for the SPLM party in Lakes State!
    Party procedures Vs personalities.
For the party interest, a compromise must be reached by the SPLM cadres and politicians. Reference should be made to the SPLM State Constitution besides membership consultation.

Daniel Awet dismiss Wulu SPLM county secretary for long absence from work place.Haaaaaa Awet should have dismissed himself first before dismissing Akol Muorwel.Awet Akot is a looter who looted cows from people of greater Bhar El Gazal for two decades and married many wives from cows that were not his own.People of Lakes dont like him.He was a parasite during the long war.

I hope this story of lakes state is not written by Manyang Mayom in Jonglei state, because of so many errors. Awet was not elected by 51 first mistake, He was not elected in 2009 and more. He was elected by Congress of Lakes state in 2008 SPLM congresses. May be this is a story base on hear say due to lack of journalistic ethics, where is Awet version and who have said what in the meeting.

Gen. Awet is chairman of SPLM in Lakes state. He has powers to fire redundant Secretaries. Akol is one of them. Gov. Chol should accept working with Mabor Dhuol, appointed by Chairman of the party. He has been appointed by the same party that delegated for Governorship during 2010 elections n became Governor. There is no way, Gov. Chol could refuse working another member of the same party!

Awetdit has been doing what he knows , he want to eliminate the secretariats who had associated with the processed of his humiliation defeat by Chol Tong in 2010 ,for the party governorship nomination ticket.
In my analysis, I think Awetdit’s secretariats reshuffle is targeting the governor Mayay re-nomination for next time party ticket and if it’s a case, Awetdit might be damn wrong.

The whole state is utterly tired of this guy called Awet, that was why his name was not among those who were sent to Juba during elections. This man did not contribute positively in the struggle. All SPLA officers of Lakes State celebrated his rejection and praying day and night for his retirement in politics.Civil populations whose cows were looted during the war don’t want to hear of him.
