According to Lakes state minister for local government and law enforcement, Benjamin Makuer Mabor, said that a security meeting was held to discuss the gun battle, resulting in a five-member committee being set up to investigate the incident. “We will make all evidence available to the people,” said Mabor.

According to anonymous security sources the attacker was James Baba Gayin, a member of the SPLA from the Murle ethnic group acting under the influence of alcohol.

“We are going to take charge of security in the town and we are going to investigate the incident. We are going to mobilise our forces, excluding those who were involved in the incident,” said Mabor.

According to Mabor, four people were wounded and two killed in the attack. Those killed were the policewoman and Baba. Three more police and one student were injured in the crossfire.

Mabor said that Baba was shot “as revenge by police”.

The investigation will examine the conduct of the police in the incident as well as its root causes and ways to prevent a recurrence.

Baba’s body will be handed over to the the division commander of unit six, of which he was a member.

Why not ban alcohol in South Sudan? It’s the one destroying the country starting from the top to the bottom.

Rumbek!, our Mogadishu, how can that lawless town host the next year independent day?. it’s will be a waste of resources to take this occassion to Rumbek since they contribute nothing to our national economy, they are only consumers and destructors.

Guys you have miss the point the only way to avoid such incident is not to ban alcohol in the city,is mere to discipline soldiers who are believe to be conventional army or otherwise Govt must changes strategy on how to recruit people into national army that will need to be base on students who know rules of laws only.

"acting under the influence of alcohol"
As long as alcohol is available everywhere in the south this incident is not going to be the last, more ugly incidences like this will soon follow!
I believe GoSS will ban alcohol at the end of the day but that will come after many innocent victims lose their life!

I remember the story of the drunk policemen who killed south authority when they discovered their salaries have been cut due to austerity program that GoSS decided to implement to address the loss of the oil revenue!
I’m not sure about the meaning of the separation from north if GoSS decide to ban alcohol in the south because alcohol was the main reason for that ugly war!

Those who take Alcohol from Sudan are more than those who take it in South Sudan.Separation was not South Sudan making but was impose on the South by sucessive repressive regimes in Khartoum.Sudan is facing yet another racial war which is bloodiest than the Southern one.Casus belli was mistreatment of blacks and identity not alcohol.

wow soldier killing police. what a great state. and southerners were so happy with their alcohol, now this is the result. even in Heglig many of the captures from south were drunk.
Mr. Bashir, this is another reason for anti 4 freedoms, alcohol and drugs. our country will get filled with that shit as southerners don’t know what law is, they come from a lawless state!

The Problem with SPLA is that many of the soldiers are traumatized from the long civil war. Many of them are disabled and unfit national soldiers and lack adiquate military training. We can expect such things from them or even worst. The government should do some thing ASAP or these guys will kill many innocent people

Our soldiers and police forces aren’t being paid properly for months thanks to our great leader Kiir. the most little they earn is being spent on alcohol and drugs. how many times did a drunk police man in south sudan kill innocent people? let alone soldiers, this is a new one.
