October 5, 2012 (LONDON) - Israel’s interior minister Eli Yishai said on Wednesday 15,000 Sudanese asylum seekers will be detained from October 15, claiming they are not refugees; something which the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) disputes.

A group of human rights groups has submitted a petition to the Jewish District Court describing the policy as an attempt to “make their lives miserable” in order to impel them to return to Sudan.

Israel does not have an extradition treaty with Khartoum’s pro-Iran government. The Sudanese asylum seekers must therefore leave Israel of their own free will.

According to Hotline for Migrant Workers, those being detained include genocide survivors from Darfur.

Eritrean asylum seekers are also to be deported. Asmara has already stated that it does not want them back.

After the second intifada, when Israel began the construction of the wall in the West Bank in 2000, work permits for Palestinians were retracted. This created a deficit of cheap manual labour. A relaxing of regulations for immigrants from other countries was Tel Aviv’s solution.

Powerful voices in Tel Aviv currently suggests that asylum seekers and more specifically those from Africa are perceived as a threat to the religious and cultural sovereignty of Israel.

Despite the animosity between Israel and Palestine more work permits are now being granted to Palestinians, while efforts are made to extradite Africans have increased. Despite the cross-border animosity, Palestinians are clearly seen as less of a threat to the cultural hegemony of Israel than Africans.

The political climate in Israel is currently conducive to racist rhetoric; the global economic crisis is putting pressure upon Israel, as it is with all the world’s countries, and inspires a search for culpability.

In Israel there are some conspicuous expenses being outlaid. This has led people to recently take to the streets of Tel Aviv, to protest about the hardship they are suffering while Orthodox Jews are given state-backed accommodation and education.

The government then changed military service regulations to include, amongst others, Orthodox Jews. However, this, as well as the attack upon asylum seekers, is seen by many as spinning plates while backstage, the economic fragility of the state is pondered.

Controversy surrounded Israel’s decision in August that 100 asylum seekers with documentation proving their original nationality is Sudanese, will be sent to South Sudan, with whom Israel has an extradition treaty.

Why this is the right moment to make this shift in rhetoric is a matter of dispute. However, globally pseudo-racist anti-immigration rhetoric is en vogue; immigrants are the perfect scapegoat in an economic crisis: see the current rise of fascist party in Greece.

One is true, Israel has no relationship with Sudan’s government for many centuries and also it is true that, Sudan is absolutely pro-Iran these things are correct.
But I think if they don’t have direct related with Khartoum then, they should deport them to South Sudan because most of them were actually rans away from government fear of life

Israeli Government should respects the International Law which bind by, if this extradition of Sudanese asylum seekers take place it will be serious violation of Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states that everyone has a right to life, liberty and security of person, therefore upon their arrival in Sudan all will be inflict with capital punishment by Sudanese Govt base on Sudan Law.

The most important option to resolve this issue is that UNHCR must negotiate an acceptable agreement with Israel to find a third country that will accept these refugees. If Israel cannot accept UNHCR advocating for these refugees and therefore go ahead with deportation, then the Israelis government will be held responsible for the death of these refugees in the hands of the two brutal regimes.

A bit too much outraged opinion from the writer.
Why should Greece put up with hordes of unwanted immigrants from the Muslim world? If those countries’ people have no idea of birth control, why should Greece, or any other country, have to be swamped by people who are a huge drain on resources? Don’t Western people have "rights" too? Like a right to a national homeland for themselves?

Darkangel, I am glad that the Jews have their own country now. The only Jewish country in the world, and a small one at that, but better than nothing. I am glad the Southern Sudanese have their own country, too. Sometimes it is better for peoples to be separated. Muslims need their own countries too. And to stay in them.

Be quiet, Muslim, and take the time to study your own history. Do you find in it Muslims who have died in the attempt to stop slavery? Has there been a Muslim Anti-Slavery League?
Is it such a dreadful thing to say that Greeks have a right to a homeland? I am a racist for saying that? Or should Greeks simply give away their country to invaders? Like the Nubians did to the invading Arabs long ago

Sudan was once a country where only black Africans lived. Then the Arabs came. Now the people of the north are the descendents of slaves taken by the Arabs. Well, that’s what I have read. But I wouldn’t call those Arabs "racist": such a nasty word!
