September 27, 2012 (WAU) - UN World Food Programme (UNWFP) has suspended humanitarian flights to Warrap state, due to the lack of security guarantees after a disagreement with the state Governor, according to local authorities and aid workers on Thursday.

No official statement has been made by the state administration assuring WFP staff working in the area will be protected.

The WFP issued a statement announcing the cessation of flights in the state, hours after the governor Nyandeng Malek protested a routine check on her hand luggage on one of their flights.

Aviation authority officials in the South Sudan capital, Juba, told Sudan Tribune on Thursday that Malek attempted to resist the security check. A member of the authority who wished to retain their anonymity described Malek as “a hundred percent wrong.“ He also claimed that Malek wa unsuccessfully trying to get re-seated at the front of the plane, despite the fact that she had seat reserved.

The official said Malek had a bitter exchange with the pilot, resulting in the cancellation of all WFP flights to Warrap.

Attempts to reach both Malek and the WFP country director did not succeed, though officials working for the state administration and WFP also claimed that reports of the incident were true.

A source close to Malek claimed that WFP staff are to blame for failing to accord her due respect, considering her position as governor. He also claimed that steps have been taken to address the “misunderstanding” with WFP.

Wow that is amazing. I think people should put their blame to VP Dr. Reik Machar because she was been rejected by most majority of Warrap State’s MP unfortunately, this VP Teny refused for impeachment. Her problem will block others females in South Sudan because people will says, look Warrap female lacking every thing.
I think she is one term governor and she will not get hire within South Sudan

If this is true! I would condemn governor Nyandeng because she act unprofessional in all term. I started believing for many article written against the governor for her act against the state leaders and now in the public transportation area.

Ms Nyandeng deserve due respect as she is overall assuring potential security in the state, but she is wrong to angerly responded that way as she could show good example to others passengers, though she in setisfy with the move there other way around she can handle it instead.

With due respect, Hon. Nyandeng is a state governor - resposible person. She cannot carry arms on board to hijack a plane! She has some immunity and some respect MUST be accorded to her tnhroughout South Sudan. Has that incident happened just because she’s a woman? The flights will resume and those involved in this VIP security glitch MUST pay for their actions!!

      Eastern,
Law is law and Nyandeng is wrong for that matter. Nobody is above the law! So Nyandeng is suggesting that you can’t be searched if you’re holding high position as she does. What if she later become a private person as we all know this leadership is nothing stationary, will she then curve in to the demand? Totally uneducated to say the least!

Nyandeng is surely a governor who need to be respected when she respects. She is indeed acting unprofessionally towards her actions and now tarnishing her image for almost the rest of her life.
It is said in the Bible that you should take a seat behind but not in front when you are invited for a party for you will be asked to come in front when you are respected or just thrown behind when not.
