July 8, 2012 (JUBA) - At least 16 people are reported to have been killed and several injured in a conflict between two ethnic groups in Cueibet county of South Sudan’s Lakes state on Saturday, local officials and state authorities said on Sunday.

An anonymous medical professional said several of the victims are in a critical condition in Rumbek Civil Hospital. He said all the injuries were inflicted by firearms and that this “is indeed a bad precedent for independence celebrations [9 July]. We expect our people to celebrate it peacefully.”

The state minister of information, Charles Mayen, confirmed the incident to Sudan Tribune adding that he is still "assembling details" of the clash but that the security situation had been "brought under control" by the security forces. He was in attendance in Cueibet county when the violence broke out.

He attributed the incident to a long-running dispute between two factions of the Gok ethinc group in which people continue to be killed in revenge attacks.

Dinka clans in Lakes state should stop killing themselves for no reason. It is crazy to mark independence celebration with fighting.

Are these Gok community is become another Lou Nuer and Murle of Jonglei State.?

Agaar Pakom are even become much better than Gok community, some people suggest that Gok people are trying to cause more problems within Agaar communities so that, they says they want to go to rejoin Tonj but certainly we do not need trouble maker and if they try we will told them no. Why killing your brothers?

Madina Toung,Lake State is the worst State at the hands of Dinka Agaar. There is no need to compare them with Lou-Nuer and Murle with different tribes.Agaar pakom and Gok are all Dinka with more confusions.Lou-Nuer Vs Murle(Murle originally originated from Omo River in Southern Ethiopia).Though the latest two(Lou-Nuer & Murle)killed each other, they are different tribes and will remain d/t.What of U

    Mr Minister,

Upto the 9th of July, you have not gathered or ’assemble the details’ then what do you call a failure in running your activities.

News about such an incident always needed official detail instead of letting people depending on a rumour-infected phone information.

I don’t blame you, I blame your innocence. What a pity for the people of Lakes State.

I think Dinka are suffering from Murlephobia because I have not seen any case concerning murle here. If Murle are few why do they fight Lou Nuer? ST rules say do not deviate from the topic of the article but moron like u don’t.

My dear Loko, you can’t compared Gok with Murle. because Murle are fighting with Nuer and DiNKA Bor, but Gok is fighting itself.it me the problem is that so call division of power like counties,Payams and Bomas that one bring more divisions among our people. for example in 70s when Rumbek is one all those problem are not there.

    Dear readers
This is a plan from GOK intellectuals. They don’t want current commissioner of Cuei-bet, to lead them, because commissioner is very serious after GOK thieves, he used to return looted cattle’s to their owners in neighboring counties ,Mr. Mayom Malek will not be change in his position ,until you stop looting .raping , revenge killing and ambushes along WAU-Rumbek Road .
