Sudan Change Now extends its deep condolences to all the Sudanese people on the death of our beloved National icon, Musician and Singer Mr. Muhammad Wardi. Mr. Wardi was a singer and musician of the people who represented freedom, tolerance and democracy and whose songs have given and continue to give hope for a better Sudan.

Sudan Change Now finds the way in which the current regime hijacked Mr. Wardi’s funeral, converting it into an official ceremony led by senior members of this oppressive regime and protected by scores of riot policemen and other security bodies as unacceptable. Mr. Wardi is representative of a heritage richer and with more integrity; therefore his funeral should not be manipulated into another one of the NCP tactics of propaganda.

By doing so, the regime in its current state of insecurity, sought to contain the spontaneous outpouring of emotions by the masses of Mr. Wardi supporters, which could have turned into anti-government protests.

These futile attempts by the regime to use its security grip and political cunningness to control the will of the people will do nothing to postpone the time of public anger which is gaining momentum by the day.

Our only regret is that the esteemed Wardi will not witness the next uprising and will not sing for it as he did for the uprisings of 1964 and 1985.
