South Sudan president meets Israeli PM

September 22, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The president of South Sudan Salva Kiir met on Thursday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.

Israeli media quoted Netanyahu as telling Kiir that the story of South Sudan is an inspiration and teaches how it is possible to establish a new independent state in an area that has been – and is yet – embroiled in painful conflict.

“South Sudan was established after long negotiations and with the agreement of all parties involved and the international community. Israel was among the first countries to recognize South Sudan, less than 24 hours after it was declared, and will be pleased to contribute knowledge and experience to it in a variety of fields that can help the new country,” Netanyahu said.

“I hope that everyone will see that this is the way to establish a state – through direct negotiations and not via unilateral measures,” he added.

The statements by Netanyahu come as Israel and the US seek to frustrate efforts by the Palestinian authority to be recognized as a state through the United Nations.

US President Barack Obama told Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas that he will veto such a move if it comes to the United Nations Security Council. He said that only Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, not actions at the United Nations, could bring peace

Palestinians have cited the precedents of South Sudan and Kosovo to justify their push to declare their own state after years of fruitless peace talks with Israel.

South Sudan became an independent state last July after its citizens voted overwhelmingly in favor of separation from the Arab-Muslim dominated north. The referendum was stipulated in the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed between North and South Sudan.

South Sudan among many nations has pledged to support the Palestinian bid at the United Nations. It is not clear if Netanyahu sought persuade Kiir not to do so.

Israel is home to thousands of Sudanese refugees, including hundreds from South Sudan, and the country’s independence was greeted with celebration parties in Tel Aviv, home to much of Israel’s Sudanese community.

The Jewish state promised to assist South Sudan n areas of infrastructure, communications and agriculture.

I don’t think that South Sudan is among many nations that has pledged to support the Palestinian bid at the United Nations, if so then we are making a HUGE MISTAKE.

Death to tribalism- is what will bring at least a sense of professionalism and cooperations among hundreds of tribes of South Sudan. Strong nations economically, socially like China for instance, it is rare to hear a tribe ‘s name. Others only consider the family lineage but the question is, are they not humans like us? It is obvious, they are. South Sudan is very small, manageable and easy to spread development across the country unlike the former united Sudan which regarded by many as the largest country in its continent. If we quit the old style of late Nimeri ‘s regime who used to consider Arabs as special people and leave behind the LandLords & LandLadies of Sudan we ‘d ‘ve remain strong one country following the dictatorship regime of said Omer alBashir the evil factor of Sudan.

General Salva Kiir Mayardit is moving with majority of South Sudanese if we pay attention and follow him successfully, we shall be a country inneed by all nations in few years to come.

Mr. President, you vowed to establish your embassy in Jerusalem earlier, and now pledging support for the Palestinians’ bid for statehood. Where are we heading with our foreign policy? And why all the confusion when it comes to our relationship with Israel as to Palestine?. Make clear to the world where we stand, and bring your friends closer while eyeing your enemies. Good luck, and you got our support.

Peace can happen only if two parties are engaged and mediated by the third party.
I know it is time for our country to engage and help bring peace in what possible ways they can around the world, but it is not wise for our young republic,to be too ambitious in the world affairs. The problem of Israel and Palestinians is along lasting issue that need our president to study first, before he can voice his support to Palestine statehood. I’m deepenly concerned to hear my president throwing his support to Palestinians, while they have just talked to built Southsudan ambassy in a disputed city of Juresalem, which in my opinion will be the capital city for Palestinians if they get their statehood.

I’m not saying that Palestinians should not be allowed to quest for their independence, but I know the peace can only be achieved, if they two parties sit down and negotiate their grievances through third party and not by uniliteral declaration. We need to be carful when it comes to Israel, Palestinians conflict because, it is something beyond individual guess of when will this two communities respect the existence of the other. Many world leaders have tried to bring peace, but bear no fruits to those who think they wipe off the Jews existence in their neighbourhood. I hope if Palestinians stop violence and adapt peacful mean, then one day they will realize peace in their state, and eventually their quest for state hood may too be possible.

So my president, I’m happy seeing you shine in the world podium expressing your views and what can bring peace among conflict nations, but I’m little bet worried of why making your case on Palestinians, while we have the same issue here in our owned country. The land of our beloved people of Byei is occupied, if not taken by force, and I thought should be the priority one in your speech to united Nations. Clear our court yards that full with thorns in all corners of the Republic. There is no region here in Southsudan, without fear of being attack, or planning to attack, and those are the things you should first dealt with in your presidency. I hope to see you change the face of security so that innocent life is not lost everyday.

    Gokrialboys,

Thumps-up.Good take on this one. To top off your argument, our President needs some savvy advisers near him to always polish him when it comes to national and international issues. His always diaheria heart or mouth will cause us(South-Sudan) one day. Our president needs to be told that it’s not what your gut-feeling tell you is what always need to be aired out. This is a world of politic and it’s not what you think is right is always right. It’s best to mute sometimes then to say something you will regret later. your good intentions can be your good advesaries.

we were not fighting on the behave of Christianity.
We are fighting for the cost of African people. Christianity and Islamic are the players of Slaves in Africa. The are the one that disadvantage Africa.

All those religiou are given to foolish people to make them sleep without thinking beyond another world or about themselves. African are getting murders by using God name.

innocence Africa and poor are getting deceive by Islamic and Christianity.

All the non African religious are against African people and their believes. African need to open their eyes better to understand the world issues. It is not religion,it is a racial hidded behind all those religions.

Christianity and Islamic are Middles East Ideology for their own better change during Roman colony and Kings Rulers.

Before for Christianity Africa was there, Christianity and Islamic did not created Africa. Africa was crated before them and they knew God that created them.

Do not sing alway of christianity or Islamic. Think of Allied and humanbeing relationship. Reliogious is becoming more dangerous now a day.
