April 23, 2011 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s army claimed today that it killed 57 militia members during Saturday’s clashes with Tanginya’s forces, in Jonglei state, adding three major-generals and several high ranking officers were among them.

The Southern military say that forces loyal to General Gabriel Tanginya instigated the violence by launching an attack against them.

The militia forces were in the process of completing their reintegration into the South Sudan army – the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) - in their designated assembly area of Kaldak, in Jonglei state, when the incident occurred.

After an agreement reached in October 2010, Tanginya was due to integrate his forces into the SPLA before July 9 when the South will secede from the North after voting overwhelmingly to separate in a referendum.

In a press release read on South Sudan TV on Saturday evening by the head of the SPLA Information Department at the General Headquarters of Bilpam, Brig. Gen. Malaak Ayuen, said the forces of Gabriel Tanginya launched the attack against the SPLA forces at Kaldak at 8:30am.

Ayuen said that the SPLA inflicted heavy losses on Tanginya’s forces, claiming 57 had been killed during the attack and many more wounded. He said among the dead included three Major Generals and a number of Brigadier Generals on the side of Tanginnya. Also one Major General and a number of Brig. Generals were captured, he added without giving their names.

It was not clear whether all those killed and captured senior officers participated in leading the attack at Kaldak against the SPLA. The SPLA information officer added that Gabriel Tanginya himself narrowly escaped from the fighting.

Ayuen said it was not clear why the renegade General attacked the SPLA position, but added they believe that the renegade has been in contact with other rebel groups in the region and refused to report to Juba after reintegrating more than 5,000 of his soldiers in the SPLA in the last two weeks.

During the (1983-2005) Sudanese civil war Tanginya fought for large periods against the SPLA, who were then a rebel movement fighting for greater rights of southerners and other groups in Sudan. The war ended in 2005 with a peace deal between the political wing of SPLA – the SPLM – and the Khartoum government.

Since the 2005 peace deal Tanginya’s forces have been accused of attacking Malakal in Upper Nile state, resulting the deaths of hundreds.

Last year before a conference for all southern parties, the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir, announced an amnesty for other armed groups operating in the region to try and bring stability to the South before independence. Tanginya took up the offer and agreed to integrate his forces.

In February 2011, Tanginya’s forces were again responsible for violence in Malakal as they clashed with their northern colleagues after refusing to transfer weapons in their possession to north Sudan.

Tanginya’s militia were used as part of the Khartoum government’s contingent of joint military units created as part of the 2005 peace deal. The violence erupted after the militia was instructed to transfer to North Sudan without all of their weapons.

Following the announcement that he would integrate his forces with the SPLA Tanginya was made an adviser to Jarch Management.

      Hello Readers!

It’s a great mental disorder of those people from great Upper Nile at large to cause trouble to their own civilians thinking they’re dehorning the government.

Enormous Shame on those who confidently participate in such barbaric attack.

        Truthteller/false prophet and the likes,

Please, may you tell us in which part of this planet that militia generals or whatever you call them did capture any town or change a functioning government by force? I have told you before that any plan whether PLAN B, C or D is on the radar screen of the mighty SPLM/SPLA.

The popular hard-won freedom and peace will be celebrated peacefully without any disruption. The tactics of reintegration while insistent on keeping arms for potential devilish act is an old strategy and unacceptable. If you have power, take it by force on the battle field. We’re ready 24/7. Never say we’re willing to negotiate with SPLM/SPLA without analyzing the basis of the negotiation.

No negotiation, no deal because the right or perhaps the best approach of building unity among southerners, fighting corruption, building infrastructure and preaching democracy is through the barrel of a gun as militia generals are currently demonstrating without considering unnecessary destruction of lives and property besides humanitarian cost.

If you want freedom and peace, remember the amnesty formally granted by the leadership of the SPLM/SPLA. The militia generals have declared war against SPLM/SPLA in broad daylight. We know pretty well that Khartoum wants South Sudan to go in pieces but not in peace. We don’t wish Northern Sudan the same in July because it’s Khartoum’s religious right to promote divisive and discriminating policy against non-Muslims or non-Arabs which resulted today into popular disintegration of the country.

But preparations of celebrating the hard-won freedom and peace will go ahead in front of regional and international dignitaries without any intended disruption. Nobody has the right to temper with it or impose his self-interest on it. Southern Sudan, freedom and peace will prevail at any cost. Remember that Khartoum and his southern militia generals are unconsciously heading permanently towards an exit slowly but surely. Let everybody show his/her true color vividly before July 9, 2011.

Let us forget generals from this community and let us put our hope to PhDs. I think Nuer community have many PhDs. Now, It may be this kind of "Terrorist" incident that finally wake up the Nuer into action, unfortunately.

Let’s Nuer be the one to get rid off this ’’TALIBAN/AL-Qaeda’’ like ’’Dinka’ government of the South.

Make no mistake the "Taliban/Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan did the same thing by trying to kill off the most senior commanders of the second largest and third largest tribes in Afghanistan namely the Tajiks and Uzbeks respectively.

But Gens. Dostum (a Uzbeks) and Masoud(a Tajiks)knew the plot and took the war to them and Gen. Dostum had killed a lot of them in which they(Taliban/Pashtuns) fear him to very this day.

He(Dostum) didn’t even face ICC Why? because the American and International community found that he was actually fighting the terrorists. The same could be apply to (Terrorist) Dinka Government in Juba.

Now,the "Taliban’ have and still today is dominated by pashtuns tribe (the majority tribe in Afghanistan).

these target killings of Nuer senior officers is the final nail in the coffin. LET THE "MUT" begin!!!!!!!!

When Riek Machar surrendered to SPLA/M in 2002, John Garang pardoned all militias in Upper Nile who were formerly under SPLA Nasir and Poshoda factions. John Garang issued an executive order to integrate all militias in Upper Nile who were willing to join SPLA/M.
Imagine when integration began all those Nuer who joined SPLA were all officers with more than 500 commanders from Nuer alone while the SPLA Mainstream had less than 100 commanders from all South Sudan tribes at the time. Now Tanganya has many major generals, brigadier generals, and many other ranks.
Do Nuer join military to cause havoc to get ranks or they are supposed to defend the nation?
Now SPLA ranks are almost made useless by Nuers especially Riek Machar group. Before 1991, being a captain was an important rank but now it is like nothing with those many illiterate Nuer generals. Pathetic!
No more integration of militias – teach them a lesson so that others are not encouraged to do the same act of rebelling to be awarded ranks.

Riek Machar and Matip Nhial had destroyed SPLA valuable ranking system when they came back shamelessly with numerous illiterate generals after serving tirelessly a ruthless jihadist regime in Khartoum.
General is a military title with great honor of bravery and nationalistic service but it had been turned into a title for thugs and for instigating crimes by Nuer illiterate militias. Pathetic!

I believe peace is the best way for young government and more importantly for the development of the nation. No matter how strong you are in terms of equipments or weaponry you still needs dialogue for the sake of the country. Even United State, the strongest country on earth deal with hostile nations. If SPLA principles is declaring war on those who do not post uprising, is the right way I disagree. I’m a strong SPLM supporter, but not supporting more war in the South because we got what we wanted. In fact, others nations such as United State business men and women are looking forward on investing in the country, but with instability one after another will make them reconsider because it may look to them as risking their resources. For instance, I believe instead of firing upon those in the process of integration into SPLA, why not deal with those declaring themselves rebels against the government and not make more of them. I saw some comments from brothers encouraging war on many articles instead of promoting peace the advice I would like to give is with war you cannot built a country. If we keep encouraging war we will not have a future on this earth.

In the other hand, you might have a different story but at this time blaming will not solve the problem. What we need is our leadership to come up with NOT CRUSHING and use other mean because war will not lead us no where. Let’s joint hand together and talk peace brothers. All of us. There are many issues that needs to be address to live in peace in our beautiful nation. Let’s find ways for peace not war any more.

I think it is completely 6 years now the GOSS has been begging militias to integrate in brothers and sisters SPLA army but nobody listen instead, the militias still loading weapons from enemy in Khartoum to kill their innocent brothers and sisters in the south. The CPA is clear that no militias only Sudan army South Army (SPLA). These generals are no vision for their themselves and Southerners at all. We all know even GOSS itself feel that there is corruption in government but way generals claim is absolutely not help us to fight against corruption instead, it increase substantial corruption in the nation. We have to fight corruption and tribalism through political mean rather than using weapons to kill our innocent people.

I can tell why rebel against government support the corruption. For example, when Egyptian fight through politics, they are now achieve their goal within short time. Libyian still are struggling when they using guns rather than politics dispite they are backing by western country. They will take years fighting although their rights is clear to the world. Another example is that Bashier has been corrupting the country for 23 years now with nobody stop him. It is because there is rebel been fighting in the country. He always gives speak for wining the war so that Sudanese focusing on war and Bashier busy looting public money. The same to the GOSS. The officials have looting our resources because we are focusing on our independence and worry of war between north and south.

So, my brother, to rebel need to think critically because the International Community and United Nations don’t support rebellion at all unless you must have clear objectives, not nonsense of these generals. We Southerners don’t need one to claim our rights through gun. Anyone uses gun is completely wrong and against our rights as citizen of Southern Sudan. You know, Dr. Lam Akol always denied of having rebel. Because he knows that the world don’t support rebel since the war cause more death to innocent people.

How come you killed people after you reached to peace agreement with them and they trusted you and came to join SPLA main branch and you attacked them from behind after you gave them your word!!!

How come Gabriel Tanginya troop launched the attack while most of the dead among them??!!

SPLA should stop lying to people because we are not foolish people and know who borke his promise and attacked people from behind after they came in peace to you!

SPLA tried the same dirty game with Mr. Athor before but because he knows SPLA dirty game he escaped the attack!

No one ever in the south will trust SPLA liars again but the negotiation with them will be through gun machine because that’s the only language SPLA understand!!

SPLA has buried the peace and harmony in the south for good, that is really very sad and disappointed!

Abu Jalabia, I blame the victims because DinkaSPLA are using the same deception again and again. The trick is simple: it is as follows, call the would-be victims and pretend that you want to make peace with them, if they believed the lie they will then be ambushed and murderred. Then Malaak Ayuen and the like would appear on SSTV to break the ’victory’ of SPLA and justifying the ugly murderring by repeating their usual lies that the SPLA were attacked first. But when you ask eyewitnesses they will always tell you truth that the SPLA have deceived and ambushed their victims. A regime which is based on lies will not stand the test of time

Is it the Arabs style of blaming everything on Israelis and Americans even when Islamists suicide bombers blow up themselves in crowd of innocent people? And in Sudan, SPLA/ SPLM are your Israelis and Americans. Well, it is very painful to us that some of our brothers are misled by you National Criminal Party (NCP) but time will come soon when our oil money they were using to buying some of our brothers will go to the rightful owners and you people will go back to selling cotton and again which not be enough to feeding you leave alone paying some one to destabilize the South. The world came into the rescue of the people of Libya because they are more united with one vision, but for us in the South is different, disunity, hatred, corruption, nepotism and tribalism is the order of the day. If we don’t stop this and embrace peace, unit and education for better development and we finished.

      Fellows,

If the South sudan is to realize democracy then dictatorship must be given the priority to dehorn those whose conducts do not match logic.
South has been to war since 1983 and some individuals or groups have adopted violent as their means of survival.
We must not shed tears nor groan when we see jungle law taking its toll on the law bypassers.

The good thing is that the SPLA is taking the war to the villages of the rebels which give them opportunity to taste the bitterness of war.
I personally ask Kiir to post huge number of soldiers to these hot spots.
Tanginya’s refusal to report to the administration unit in Juba is enough to predict that he is no longer working with SPLA.
I wish his head was beheaded and brought to juba headquarters.

For God’s sake,do you believe the lies that are being propagated by the SPLA spokeman? It’s evidently clear the SPLA launched the attack on the unsuspected Tanginya forces.

Let’s Nuer be the one to get rid off this ’’TALIBAN/ALQUADA’’ like ’’Dinka’ government of the South.

Make no mistake the "Taliban/Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan did the same thing by trying ti kill off most of the senior commanders of the second largest and third largest tribes of Afghanistan namely the Tajiks and Uzbeks respectively.

But Gens. Dostum (Uzbeks) and Masoud(Tajiks) took war to them and the Former killed a lot of them in which they(Taliban/Pashtuns) fear him to this day.

He(Dostum) didn’t even face ICC Why? because the American and International community found that he was actually fighting the terrorists. The same could be say to the same Dinka Government(Terrorist) in Juba. The "Taliban’ was dominated by pashtuns tribe (the majority tribe in Afghanistan).

these target killings his the final nail in the coffin.

    Coward Jaang/Slaves,

The discipline of Nuer forces is also demonstrated by a remarkable capacity of continues to press an assault while sustaining very heavy casualties. When the Eastren Jikany Nuer Warriors were attacked early in 1912 by a heavy armed Ethiopian force of Gala/Oromo and Amhara, intent of taking slaves, the Nuer over 100 men in the course of overrunning the invaders’ machine gun emplacement.

The invaders (Oromo & Amhara) mission was not failed, but also lost over 300 soldiers and 50 missing. The also made a number of concerted attacks on fortified government post. In one instance in which a Nuer raiding party was intercepted by a government patrol, the Nuer lost 85 men in the initial engagement but nevertheless counterattacked the same night and again the following day before withdrawing to home territory.

It is also quite clear that Nuer military domination of the Dinka and other Jurs was grounded in their capacity to field a numberically superior fighting force, and in the organizational features through which mobilization on a large scale was effective. Other aspects of the Nuer advantage were secondary and derivative. Nuer Warriors tactics and strategies are relatively simple and straightforward.

The coward Jaang/Slaves are always happy and dance even drink whatever they might like when hearing/seeing their Cancer (Nuer) get kilk or dying. The South Sudan army/SPLA has been fighting froxy war against the coward Jaang/Slaves’ number 1 enemy, the Nuer.

The coward Jaang/Slaves belindly believe that if the South Sudan army/SPLA which composes of all ethnic groups including the Nuer give other factions big blow, it is them who did that. The coward Jaang/Slaves know the Mighty Nuer Warriors very well since 1800s. The coward Jaang/Slaves are lucky enough since the SPLA has been fighting their war agaisnt the Nuer community.

Thanks God! Gen. Copra Tanginge (Gatwech Chan) escaped that cheap conspiracy action against him and his force.
