January 20, 2011 (MOSCOW) — Russia is willing to recognize an independent state in Southern Sudan if the results of 9 January referendum are accepted by the two governments north and south, said the special envoy of the President Dmitry Medvedev to Sudan.

On Wednesday, the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) declared recognizing the results of the Southern Sudan referendum on independence. Southerners according to the preliminary results overwhelmingly voted in favor of the independence of the region.

International observers from different countries and organizations also said the vote was fair and credible. They also hailed the security conditions and the good organization despite logistical and material difficulties.

“If a new independent state appears on Africa’s map as a result of the referendum and this is not accompanied with conflicts, this outcome can be described as a most favourable one,” said Mikhail Margelov special Russian envoy to Sudan.

“We act as an honest partner: we have no burden of the colonial past either in Sudan or in neighbouring African countries, nor have we investments running into billions or the mentality of an international policeman. Russia in this case can only show its goodwill,” he stressed.

Margelov said the northern and southern Sudan governments expressed readiness to reach agreement on the pending issues to prevent another civil war.

"The political forces of Sudan were able now to reach agreement: they have common interests, and, one would like to hope, not only economic."

Last December during a visit to Khartoum, the Russian envoy met with the Sudanese First Vice President and head of southern Sudan government to discuss the future relations between Russia and South Sudan.

"Russia is interested in its economic presence in Sudan, whether in a unified one, or with the South separated from it," he said.

“From the business point of view, (Sudan) offers a multitude of perspective trends - oil, pipelines, energy, water resources and railway transport,” he stressed.

Russia cannot be a good international observer and mediater,
Why only should Russia reconize the results after NCP agree? Are you not stirring the pot? What about your observation as a international diplomat, don’t you have your own comments regarding what you saw? I think your country is not happy about the results. But other Nations were satisfied . Do you still need NCP to say no?

No way Sir. We are out!

    Hi Southerners,

You need to let Russian know that we Southerners are just tired of the so called Russian and the Chinese we don’t care about their recognition because those who contributed to the distruction of the people of Southern Sudan land be it directly or indirectly are the Russian themself who are now trying to twist around like as if they are new to us,Never,we are matured enough to handle our affairs in the new born state of Africa.
My appreciation goes out to the International Community specially the EU Observers mission, US,Carter center as well as goodwill people who thanked us for the peacefull referendum in the World History to happen in Sudan.

    Kinkak.

Russians should "lick their elbows!" We don’t need them to recognize us based on NCP recognition.

Why would we want to be recognized if NCP is the one to set the condition? Stupid Russian!

      My brothers and sisters,

I would like to greet all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in the hope that all are doing fine in your place of residences. I advise all to not take Russia as an enemy. We all know what Russia, china and other countries have done to us. Russian and chinese amunitions were used by the government to kill us.

But we have to understand that we are in the world of politics and in politics, there is no permanent enemy. We fight today and become friends tomorrow. Russia as a country has to follow her economic and political interest at any cost. Even Americans and British were supporting many oppressive regimes and later on changed against.

So right now, Russia has declared its position with regards to secession and we should politically welcome that. We can get whatever the north use to get from Russia and China as long as we do business with them like how the north use to. This world is not about reality and truthfulness especially when it comes to politics. It is about interests. A give and take.

Thanks. May God bless you, we are free at last.

I will leave you with the words of St. Paul, May the Lord be with you.
