September 1, 2010 (JUBA) – A southern Sudanese politician representing the south’s governing party – the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) - as minister for oil in the national government in Khartoum has come under fierce criticism for voicing his support to maintain the unity of Sudan.

Lual DengThe Sudanese oil minister Lual Deng became the first high profile Southern figure to publicly express his support for the country’s unity ahead of a self-determination referendum due to take place early next year in the South.

Most observers expect an overwhelming vote in favor of independence after two decades of bitter civil war (1983-2005) that claimed an estimated 2 million lives.
Since independence in 1956 the south has complained that mainly Arab-Muslim north has marginalized the region.

Despite this, the oil minister who is from Bor Jonglei State as the former SPLM leader the late John Garang said that unity is a better option for the southern Sudanese.

"I’m a unionist in the footsteps of a unitary leader [late SPLM leader] John Garang de Mabior. We studied for PhD together at the University of Iowa. But I consider myself his disciple. The reason for this was that I was, initially, a separatist. But Garang convinced me on the virtues of one Sudan," Deng said in an interview with the London based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper during a private visit to Washington.

The statements by the minister have angered both politicians and ordinary people in southern Sudan. A member of the SPLM in the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly in Juba, Arop Madut, criticized the comments made by Lual Deng, describing him as somebody who behaved as if he did not eat three meals a day in his life time until he became the minister of oil in Khartoum.

Arop, who represents Abyei in the Juba-based parliament, said during his interview on Southern Sudan Television (SSTV) on Tuesday and Wednesday that Lual Deng - whom he also explained that his real name is Lual Achuek, but had to prefer ‘Deng’ instead of ‘Achuek’ - was not following the footsteps of late John Garang as he claimed.

He said late John Garang was for a unity based on justice and equality while the unity Lual Achuek called for had no basis.

Daniel Dut from the University of Juba also criticized the minister for his unity stance, saying Lual commented without evaluating whether unity had been made attractive or not on the new basis.

"I think the minister [Lual Deng] was simply commenting to please the National Congress Party in his new job in Khartoum because his support for unity had no basis. It sounded as if he was supporting unity just for the sake of it,” he said.

The minister of oil however acknowledged that if referendum was to take place today it will be in favour of independence. He also expressed optimism that confidence building measures between the north and south over the next four months may avert such outcome.

The southern figure said that the people of southern Sudan are already ruling their own region with a substantial presence in the federal government with opportunities not even available for Northerners.

"What do we [southerners] want more than that?" Deng asked.

Dut in his reaction to the question posed by the minister said he was stunned by the unfortunate copying of the question from northerners, adding that the South wants something more than semi-autonomous administration or some jobs in the federal government.

"We want freedom as an independent nation, justice, equality and development," he said.

Dr Lual Deng has lost his political virginity and would be treated with contempt wherever he go.
We the Dinka community are ashamed that we have such people in our community.

Rest in peace Dr Lual Deng. we will miss you.

      shame on Dr. Lual

Dr. Lual claimed to be Dr Garang’s disciple, but he is one of those disciples who did not comprehensively understood the tricks and tactic Dr. Garang used, when "New sudan" ideology was coined. Dr Garang New sudan vision was a very cunning political move to gain international support. Most leaders who fight for freedom and unity of their country are overwhelmingly supported by international powers however smart one like Dr. Garang used this play to SUGAR COAT THE SOUTH SUDAN INDEPENDENCE. In this case, Dr. Lual himself could not understand this trick. He thought Garang mean this Ideology but hell to the No.

Dr lual need to read again what SPLM stand for. Who was Dr garang going to liberate us from??? The name SPLM itself was carefully formed to confuse the Sudanese people from opposing Dr. Garang and to block their eyes from seeing South Sudan main hidden goal ( independence) . I quot Garang again, "putting yourself in the South Sudan shell denny you aliances" Its a fact.

Dr. Garang used a 21st politics during the 20th century. You create a reasons to be the oppressed, the one fighting the evil. In our case NCP/Nif as the evil and SPLM fighting for freedom.
Supper powers such as American as for aliances when they go to war even if its a weak country like Iraq.

Dr. Garang even one time publicly revealed his true separatism by saying that "If this girl call unity turned to be ugly and not attractive, then we can break up this relationship"
Tell this old man to get out of the Southerners way.
you are a shame to the great Bor people. We never supported unity

        Dear readers,

Lual Achuek is a shame to the people of Bor and Twic East in particular. He is like his mentor Abel Alier who grew up in the lap of Jallaba in Khartoum until his hair turned grey and is the advocate for any unionist in the South.

Abel Alier was said to be the one confusing John Garang to go for unity in order to rule the South through the help of Jallaba for a long period of time without being overthrown in the South.

        Shame on opportunists............

These traitors are expected to pop up as we are in the last days to our freedom. Their problem is that they don’t enjoy any backing by the population in the South. If they did, they could have come up shouting in streets and talking to media like Lual Achuek.

        Shame on them...

          Gatwech,

Leave uncle Abel Alier alone. He has done his part in sudan history and has done a good thing by being silent as he enjoy his last days in khartoum.
Abel Alier had no mutual understanding or political connection with john Garang.
Lual Achuek should be condemned solely as per his opinion but not Bor community.
What should be taken care of is why all influential South leaders hail from Bor?
This must enlighten all southerners to treat any Bor leader’s remarks with a grain of salt.
Sadly it is a reality that " it is hard to kill a history once it is established" This is a fact which southerners should treat Bor with caution and respect.
History can not be rewritten and they have already written a solid history which will resonate from now to the generation to come.

Whether the two names mean the same or not, I wish to appreciate the current position of former "Nyaget" of Anyanya I, II and during 21 years of SPLM specifically in 1991.

You garwech, your people almost torn apart the greater upper Nile into piece but fail and this will keep back firing on until the end of your generation who were directly involved or not but lived by then.

The 9th of january next year is very crucial and need commonality as referendum is the only exclamation mark that rightly punctuate our problems with arab.

Unknowingly Lual Deng must have stated this when he did not meant but on other hand as Nhial Bol stated yesterday Lual Deng was talking within the policies of his party. In brief, in SPLM manifesto unity is one of the objectives and if we all want to sing the same song then SPLM constitution need to be revised inmmediately just before referendum to avoid controversy.

Yes i agree with every body that we should be separated from Arabs as the best option we must go for and I believe this is the stance for all Southerners including Lual Deng.

Am not defending Dr. Lual Deng opinion but I know he has no malicious intention on his fellow Southern Sudanese cause he never slept away from is his SPLM as he had been supporting it all along with whole his heart.

And having being quoted in the internet as he said, it does not qualify people like Garwech and people of the same category to say shame to Dr. Lual Deng.

Finally you garwech, would you mind to team your tongue from your liberators.

Lual Achuek is a liar and he had never fought during the struggle because he used to live in a refugee camp and Nairobi for the last 20 years. Garang said and i am just paraphrased it that if you want to be treated as a second class citizen in your own country, then vote for unity. Nevertheless, what refugee camp did this opportunist talked to Garang? However, the SPLM is full of cowardice, traitors, opportunists and garbage thinkers and if the party is not paying attention to oreos, it will not going to last longer. enemies within are the worse and destructive for the country we want to creat. the money followers and self-centered people will not lead us anywhere.

So, youth will neva be bought by Khartoum government (Arabs) but elders will be taken by them e.g. Lual Acuek, minister of oil....... plus many others.

I am quite sure, Dr. Lual Deng was misquoted. To prove this he will soon call for a press conference in refutation of this concoted statements as he has just arrived from the United States.
But I am really puzzled to see his tribally minded critics using this opportunity to blackmail the community where he hails. That clearly shows that we in the south always have ill-intensions against each other, only that no opportunity allows it. Remember, political statements donot always represent the exact individual’s position on a subject, for politics is always a dirty game.

I think, you misunderstood what the politic means. Dr. Lual can say anything given the position he hold now However; does not mean Dr Lual is for Unity.
He has been supporting the SPLM that you are talking about today. Without people like Dr Lual, you wouldn’t even talk about SPLM.
Remember anyones’ comments will not make Southern Suudanese either vote for Unity or Separate. They know what they are going to vote for.
Regarding Dinka, I think Dinka are shame to have this kind of people who don’t keep secret. A Dinka must keep his secret from enemy and will use that secret as his best alternative.

If Dr. Garang was using New Sudan to blindfond Arabs and get support from outside Sudan, what wrong with Dr Lual to use Unity to get other things we want from the other party.

Again, South Sudanese know what they want including Dr. Lual as the first man to support South and continue to support.
No one should be blame because of hardly understanding and interpretation.
      Good Luck.

I can also comment on the word being said by the SPLM member that the person called Lual Deng is like person who never eat meal three times in a day. IHope the man has never been in bush for those years which ended in 2005. Or else he has been bribed by Arabs that is why he talk like drunkard, and I believe lack of advisory service is another setback.

The question to him is, why does he talk following the words being spoken by late Garang as if he is wife to Garang? Our Almighty God will be the one to punish him before the action is taken.

Please son of bitch Lual Deng, don’t temper to come south when those who like unity be more than those of separation otherwise you will see a rat.

I think it is unfair to take this whole issue is being blown out of proportions. Dr. Lual is a free citizen who is free to speak what he really thinks. His vote will not change much in terms of the outcome but debate over this whole issue should be welcomed in a civil manner. There are those who have not contributed to South’s liberation but are howling as if they were in the trenches. Dr. Lual has done more for South than any leader. Why don’t most commentators on this website try to constructively criticize opinions opposing their own rather than result to the tired old insults and cyber intimidations? I guess its narrow mindedness and lack of forsight regarding political issues.

Some of these comments against Dr Lual are an embarrassment to South Sudan intellectuals and gives ammunition to bigots like Samani to regurgitate old sterotypical views of southerners.

2.5-3 millions lives were lost. 22 years pasted with out a brick put on another brick in Southern Sudan. If any thing, those which were enact were bombed out. People suffered. Elderlies were hacked to death and yanked into the fire. Youngs were driven into slavery up in the north. Women were raped. Our oil have been looted. All of these happened in united Sudan. When we are about to see the light at the end of the tunnel, you call for unity! What have our people died for? What have we suffered for?

The SPLM needs to take this oil Minister to near by hospital and have his mine tested.
May be and just may be, the National Congress Party might have given him crazy millions of bucks, which might have blocked his brilliant thinking capacity.
Mr. Lual Achuek is an academically-well-accomplished individual and he should have known it better.
He should have eaten his blood-stained money slowly, a voiding calling other people all kinds of stupid names and let the people of Southern Sudan determine their futuristic political destiny whether they wanted to be part of united new Sudan or opt out to become an independent political state.
This is the choice the people of Southern Sudan should make and no political leader should hijack it.
Indeed, Mr. Lual Achuek, we have given National Congress Party ample amount of time to make everything right and to make the unity attractive, but they have miserably failed to make the unity attractive.
Therefore, you should not blame the people of Southern Sudan if they voted the separate way.
In this regard, Mr. Lual Achuek, the National Congress Party has nobody else to blame, but themselves.
In fact, the imminent political disintergration of Sudan should be squarely blamed on National Congress Party’s political stubborness and intransigence to fully implement the hard-won 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
Many long-term thinking political pundits have said many times that if Comprehensive Peace Agreement is fully implemented in both letter and spirit, it will changes the Sudan from being a dictatorial police state into inclusive democratic state whereby there will be rule of law, peace, liberty, freedom, respect for human dignity and social justice for all wonderfully God’s created people of majestically New Sudan.
Finally and last, but not certainly the least, we must let not ourselves to be wickedly fooled once again by scum of degenerated humanity Jallaba-Arabs.
Recently, many shallow-minded and simple-minded people who have been running around like chicken with its head cut off preaching their fatalistic armageddonic messages of Somalization of Southern Sudan should we choose to become an independent political state. In fact, these fatalistic messages of Somalization of Southern Sudan are nothing more than propagandistic lies deceptively designed to scare living crap out of you, the people of Southern Sudan and to make you look frighteningly stupid. So, please do not lose your determined hope.
We, the people of Southern Sudan are more than ever before fully prepared to not only address all these challenges and eventualities, but also to comprehensively eradicate them.
My Dear people, let us have faith in ourselves that is the only way we are going to move our people into the right direction and build more prosperous and viable united Southern Sudan. Therefore, My dear people, the choice is all yours whether you wanted to be part of united new Sudan whereby you will continue to be needlessly oppressed, abused and subjugated as a second-class citizens or opt out to become an independent political state whereby you will be first class citizens.
Fellow Citizens, it is imperatively important that we put an end to agonizing political Goliath of falsehoods and bashing of one another. Why? Because I strongly believe that such state of things are not going to do us any good in the end.
Finally and yet importantly, the late American President John F. Kennedy once said," Mankind must stop the war, or war will put an end to Mankind". Therefore, in this regard, I strongly admonish the peace-loving, liberty-seeking and splendid people of Southern Sudan to put an end to the war, or else the insanity war will put an end to all of us. In other words, we mustlearn to live together as brothers or else we shall all perish as philistine fools.
In conclusion, it is imperatively important that we stress our shared commonality and de-emphasis our personal and old-fashioned political differences for the greater good of our ordinary citizens.
This will of course, in my opinion help us to overcome, withstand, and frustrate Jallaba-Arabs sponsored dark political machinations in the upcoming Referrendum.
May almighty God creator of heaven and Earth bless the long-forgotten, abused and needlessly oppressed people of Southern Sudan and guided them into their promised land of freedom, liberty, respect for human dignity and social justice. SPLA Oyee, New Sudan Oyee.

May almighty God creator of heaven and Earth bless the long-forgotten, abused and needlessly oppressed people of Southern Sudan and guided them into their promised land of freedom, liberty, respect for human dignity and social justice. SPLA Oyee, New Sudan Oyee.
Victory to the long-suffering people of Southern Sudan in the upcoming Referrendum.

SPLA/M popularity is reducing for not talking openly as Garang used to do.

Sept 02, 2010. Nothing wrong with unity as Lual Deng opinion is the main reason we were in bush for and the SPLA/M main goal was Unity. Time for Khartoum Regime is gone; there will be no second class citizen in Sudan anymore.

To free everyone is not an easy thing that can be done in some years. It needs a longs term goal that needs every Sudanese individual to participate together. Let others go farther for unity and others remain in the south to secure it.

Separation does not make sense; it is a short sign option for us to take a break if something becomes too difficult. It does not mean we will be safe if south separate as many of us are singing daily.

The bad part of separation is these: we are letting the settlers take over Africa Land, event the settlers that have never been in African will come to Sudan. North will train Rebel against Goss and all southerners Rebels will disturb south that will cost tribal sections.

The danger now is southerners against each other’s and I do feel if we separate. All people under captivity in the north will not be free, if we just stop in the South. The people we have to fears the most would ourselves as southerners are open minded.

Unity is the best of all in Sudan, its claim the African land and it rescue people in oppression under Islamic Regime in Khartoum. The economic issues are good for a big that let the country citizen’s move freely.

When the economic is weak in some part of the Country, the others parts of the country help in economic crises. SPLA/M and it allied have a power to overtake Khartoum regime, even If people vote for separation. Or after some years in separation will attempt reunited the country when all present violence clam down.

Unity is the main goal that the SPLA/M has been fighting for. However, it shows our weakness of struggling. The world is fighting for Land to be over by strong people on the world. The weakest people on the world will be enslaving. Those who do not protect their land will be taken over by others clever people on the world.

The people who are weakness in their culture are easy distracted through many religions. We will not be second citizens as many of us fear that we will be second citizens if we are a union country.

There is no piont why we were fighting for to be a second citizen again. We are fighting to let everybody be free in Sudan in general. Everybody will be working for own to upgrade ourselves through skills of doing thing, not because we are in unity.

        tone of liberators

Doesn’t anyone question unity of DR Garang ?. How about the word referendum itself?. Not being acquainted to the actual fact unity , do we in the south have the same opinion and views ?. As evidence may suggest , is there any agreement or document in the south Sudan to keep all of us on one opinion ? . In the end is all about what you .... and what you do not ..... .In showing all of these, There is no any scientific fact as everyone is watching to proving that whoever speak against separation is the enemy of separation. The thing is , everyone has right to express his view and at the same time expect his view to be criticized by others as long as there is no intimidation . In the context of the exposed DR Deng , he has all sort of rights to speak up his mind , but not rights to push or force anyone to vote for unity.

From here we shouldn’t jump into conclusion by single out DR Deng for what he said. The best Thing administration should do is that there must be Plan B in case unity is going to be option or separation is going to be option in order to making both end meet.

It’s no seceret that we will bribe all the southerners that live in the north to vote for unity, now we are populating Miserya in Abyei and soon they will make big difference when they cast their votes in Abyei, absolutely we will bribe both Miserya and Dinka Nagok.

        Dear Readers,
What a sell out opportunistic political leader! Lual Achuek is another Southerner whose his mouth has been stuffed with blood-stained money. Mr. Lual Achuek should eat his blood-stained money slowly, stop his political bad-mouthing of others and let the people of Southern Sudan determine their futuristic economic well-being, cultural development and political destiny comes January,9, 2011.
        Dear Readers,
Since Sudan got her independence from the incompetent, racist, and immorally corrupt Anglo-Egyptian colonial administration on January,1, 1956, Sudan has been mired in a never-ending bloody resources-draining political civil wars, violence and nighmarish economic deprivation.
The agonizing bloody political civil wars which have been fought through out the history of contemporary Sudan, were fought on basic and rudimentary principles to achieve total freedom, liberty, respect for human dignity and social Justice for all wonderfully God’s created people of majestically new Sudan.
Indeed, Lual Achuek and many of his likes do not want the people of Southern Sudan to realize and enjoy their long-cherished democratic principles of liberty, freedom, respect for humanity dignity and social justice. We, the people of Southern Sudan must resist and condemn in the strongest term possible those who want to deprive us of our God-given rights.
Furthermore, our people of Southern Sudan have been exposed to a prolonged periods of political uncertainty, violence and economic deprivation.
Indeed, the signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Naivasha, Kenya not only ended the longest-running bloody resources-draining political civil in Sudan, but it was also a political and sociological shift from an old Sudan of injustice, abject miseries, needless poverty, and exploitation and signaled the realization of pluralistic democratic parliamentary United new Sudan of peace, sustainable development, social justice and durable political prosperity.
Therefore, the chances of having a united secular new Sudan are very small. We have given the scum of degenerated humanity Jallaba-Arabs in Khartoum ample mount of time to do everything right during the interim period, but they have miserably failed to make unity attractive. Now,is the time for the people of Southern Sudan to construct their political destiny.
Recently, many people have been running around preaching their fatalistic messages of Somalization of Southern Sudan should we choose to become an independent political state.
These fatalistic messages are nothing more than propagandistic lies specificially designed to scare living crap out of you, the people of Southern Sudan and to make you look wickedly stupid. We, the people of Southern Sudan are more than ever before fully prepared to not only address all these challenges and eventualities, but also to eradicate them. So, please do not lose hope. We need to have faith in ourselves that is the only way we are going to move our people into the right direction, and build more prosperous and viable united Southern Sudan.
We also need to preaching gospels of brotherhood, peace, solidarity and unity amongst our people during this defining moment in our country’s history.
Moreover, let us work together to build a war-free, God-fearing, prosperous and more moralistic corruption-free Commonwealth Christian nation-state of Southern Sudan based on our foundational Judaeo-Christian values and principles.

Finally and last, but not certainly the least, let us encourage, promote and emphasis our shared commonality and de-emphasis our personal and old-fashioned political differences for the greater good of our ordinary citizens.
In fact, the late president of the united States of America John F. Kennedy once said," Mankind must stop the war, or war will put an end to Mankind". Therefore, in this regard, Let us stop preaching politics of hatred and alienationor else the politics of hatred and alienation are going put an end to all of us. In other words, let us learn to live together as brothers or else we shall all perished as dimwitted philistine fools.
Suport for the SPLM as the only political organization leading the people of Southern Sudan into the promised land:
Having thoroughly and brilliantly examined other political parties’ backgrounds, records, visions, policies, and programs, I have comprehensively concluded with out the shadow of the political doubt that the SPLM-Torit-Mainstream is a redemptive Messiah-like political organization with firmly established vision for the country.
Its vision of pluralistic democratic parliamentary united secular new Sudan is the nation sought-after vision.
Therefore, I ardently urge the orphaned political pupils of the SPLM-Torit-Mainstream to protect and safeguard the SPLM-Torit-Mainstream’s vision, policy, and programs from being fundamentally distorted by bunch of thuggish, demon-possessed, and politically-inexperienced thugs who have been for far too long deceptively spoon-fed with corroding cruel lies, falsehoods and mythological false sense of corroding inferiority.
Finaly, fellow Citizens, let not allow ourselves once again to be wickedly fooled by scum of degenerated humanity Jallaba-Arabs.

      Garang’s disciples,

In war, the skin of Fox is at times as necessary as that of a Lion, for cunning may succeed when force fails. Mr. Marxist-Leninist Garang was speaking from his underground rally in a message to his disciples, he declard that "the first bullet must be fired against the separatists [Anya Nya II], as an attempt to impose his self-claimed "New Sudan," vision on Southern Sudanes and hijack the movement from the founders/separatists altogether, coincidence?

As a result of Nasir move 8 years later, Garang divorced and abandoned the alliance, called the SPLA/M 1st National Convention at Chukudum in 1994 and the self-determination for South Sudan was the first agnda in that Convention.

The movement changed from its former name SPLA/M as it was wel-known back than to SPLM/A. Mr. Garang put self-determination for South Sudan to be the first agenda/priority whenever there is a peace talks with Khartoum government. Garang himself shamelesly signed for the it in CPA.

Mr. Marxist-Leninist Garang gave up his "New Sudan,: vision, a vision he always fefers as a "vision of no-return," This raised too many unsettling questions from his allies especially the inner circle of NDA, Nuba Mnts, and Blue Nile who were oblivious and betrayed at the same time by his self-observed "New Sudan," vision until they realized that Garang shamelessy made a U-turn which left them in illusion.

Garang relentless preached the philosopy of new Sudan as the only just mean of attracting allies from other parts of the Sudan as he put it when he addressed equatorian community in USA. he cited very immpecable examples from Anyanya1 where Nubians were our enemy which is opposit during the SPLM/A vision of new sudan. in short, Garang used this tactic to gather all the oppressed people of sudan and join forces against the tyrany in Khartoum. by doing so, every part will get its share after the main enemy is crushed beyond refair as done by the movement under his wise vision. please, get enlightened brother for 21st century politic of alliances!!
