SPLM welcomes Bashir’s launch of pro-unity campaign

August 24, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – President Al-Bashir has announced that the government’s campaign for the promotion of Sudan’s unity will be launched in the semi-autonomous region of south Sudan whose citizens are due to go to the polls in January 2011 to decide whether to remain united with the north or secede to form the world’s newest nation.

While delivering a speech during the annual Ramadan breakfast of the Coptic community in Khartoum yesterday, Al-Bashir pledged to provide the campaign with all resources it needed to “enlighten southern citizens on advantages of unity and disadvantages of secession.”

He urged the Government of Southern Sudan to ensure fair and free conduct of the referendum and to enable southern citizens to cast their votes with freedom and transparency.

The SPLM has welcomed the campaign. In a press statement published yesterday by SUNA, the country’s official news agency, a senior member of the SPLM Luka Piong said that the law allows political parties and civil society organizations to contribute by sending messages to southern citizens and inform them to cast their vote in the referendum depending on accurate information.

In his speech, Al-Bashir cited the existence of a commission for the protection of the rights of non-Muslims in the north as a proof against claims of religious discrimination in Sudan. His statement comes against the background of numerous assertions by the SPLM that the issue of Shari’ah law in the north is a stumbling block to unity.

“The NCP’s desire to entrench a theocratic has thwarted the model of unity advocated by the SPLM” said the SPLM’s politburo in a statement last week.

Under the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which ended decades of civil war between north and south Sudan, the SPLM of south Sudan and the Al-Bashir-led NCP of the north are bound to attempt to amke unity “attractive” to south Sudan’s citizens.

But the implementation of the six-year deal has been marred by lack of progress and mutual distrust between the two partners, leading to a common belief that south Sudan’s citizens will opt for secession.

This referendum is the last opportunity that South Sudanese will ever have of ruling themselves for ever. Throw this golden opportunity into a Lioness’ den and you might never have it back. Of course the NCP will want to interfere with the referendum and manipulate the results into their advantage. SPLM has to be vigilant for the remainder of the time left till Jan 2011. South Sudanese should never believe what ever the NCP promises be it the abandonment of sharia law post referendum. Any promise now will turn out to be a blank cheque after 2011. Mark my words.

      to AL BASHIR,

The unity we had was mared by many abuses. If a marriage is full of abuses like violent, eceonomic deprivation, unfaithfulness and other threatening behaviours, the only that a Judge will do is to issue divorced orders terminating the marriage. There no point in which you can convince South Sudanese at this late hour to vote for UGLY UNITY.

I agree that, the unity was given the chance to be made attractive during the interim period.it was the SPLM who was making it attractive, but the NCP frustrated this effort. Now you are saying that you will convince Junubi to vote for Unity.I don’t think there will be a platform where you will initiate your arguemment for unity.Shariah law is still impeding unity, many poor women from South Sudan and Darfur are languishing in desolate jails in Khartoum, simply for brewing ’ARAGI’ AND YET THEY ARE NOT MUSLIMS.

      Yes for separation!!!,no for Unity!!!!

This is nonsense campaign. It’s too late for president Bashier to talk about while his behavior portrays opposite act. Shame on you Bashier to cite the commission that would protect the rights of non-muslims in the north instead of written national constitution. It would be a great mistake for marginalized person to buy into this speech of fugitive.
Above all, we are fed up with Arab-African Unity in Sudan that comes with deep mistrust, ignorance, and racism. Enough is enough with north-south unity.

As it is a universal experience that unity is bliss and separation is suf fering, the attainment of oneness has always been the ultimate goal of all real spiritual paths and traditions of enlightenment. Although their means and teachings differ, they unanimously agree that sepa ration is ignorance and unity is self-realization.

Unity is indeed the antidote to separation, but only from the standpoint of lower truth. The one reality transcends this division inherent to the realm of ignorance. It is within the undivided whole that we experience our dream of separation as well as our awaken ing to unity. In our evolution we journey between these existential extremes, shifting through a rainbow of diverse realizations as we draw ever closer to the realm beyond opposites.

The state of totality is not subject to divisions, for it is the abso lute container of all possible and actual realities. To enter this great unknown, we must return to the natural state of selfless being and merge with the root of all things, the non-abiding realm of universal I am. Only after merging with existence do we finally rise above the dichotomy of unity and separation and realize the exalted state of oneness.

It is absolutely too late for this brutal, bloodthirsty and genocide-denying president of So-called Sudan to preach his stupid Koranic myopic message of unity of Sudan at this critical and defining moment in our country’s history.
The people of Southern Sudan are already growing increasingly sick and tired of being treated as if they are totally incompetent, uninformed, and unintelligent bunch.
Fellow Citizens, the question we should be asking ourselves is: Where was Bashir for last five years? In fact, the National Congress Party has shown itself as untrustworthy political organization that cannot be trusted with successful implementation of the hard-won 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement and successful conduct of the upcoming Referrendum.
Indeed, there is nothing Bashir and his National Congress Party can do at this critical and defining moment to persuade the people of Southern Sudan to vote for that unattainable, bogus and pipe-dream united Sudan. We, the people of Southern Sudan have given them ample amount of time to do things right, but they have really messed- up everything. So, there is no more time left for these aggravatingly degenerated thugs.
Fellow Citizens, the National Congress Party has demonstrated itself as a political organization with out clear vision on how to move the country into the right direction, it lacks programmatic and clearly spelled-out plans on how to develop the country and above all, it has shown itself as the most visionless and destructive political organization lead by bunch of degenerated natural-born fools.
Victor Hugo once said," There is nothing more powerful in all this world than an idea whose time has come." Therefore, in this regard, the time has come for the people of Southern Sudan to extricate themselves from rusty steel chains of cruelly dehumanizing bondage of slavery, enforced political oppression, exploitation and mismanagement for which they have been helplessly held hostages for so many years.
Finally and last, but not certainly the least, let us stop preaching down-market, diversionary and outlandish fabricated lies aimed at destroying and tearing ourselves down. Let us promote, encourage and emphasis our shared and unbreakable commonality and de-emphasis our outdated long-standing political differences for the greater good of our peace-loving, liberty-seeking and splendid people of Southern Sudan.
May almighty God creator of heaven and Earth bless the long-suffering, abused and needlessly mistreated people of Southern Sudan and guide them into the promised land of freedom, liberty, respect for human dignity and social justice for all peace-loving people of Southern Sudan.

It’s going to be a waste of resources to campaign for unity without first setting out the basis for it. Unity under the Arab, Islamic, monolithic, theocratic state is unacceptable to the people of South Sudan. I advise Bashir to campaigns for peaceful separation and sisterly neighborhood.
This shows that northerners are so naive to overlook their oppressive measures they meted on Southerners for the last 54 years under an incomplete unity in which the colonial authority left us in. British colonialism was more merciful than the demonic subjugation of the Arabs.
When the baby is nine months full in its mother’s womb, it’s either born peacefully or died violently with the mother or leave chronic damage to the mother. Bashir and his religious bigots must choose.

Is war only happened in Sudan and not other African Countries? Of course not!
I think the President of Sudan should continue working as usual and ignore ICC case as disturbing who tries to make him frightened and scary with this games, on the other hand it may force Sudan to seek more, or look for more military power in order to stand against this issue. Now we can see this new game have just united most African Countries against the President of Sudan where their aim has nothing to do to make African the better place but they preferred to destroy it which can be assume that their issue base on greedy wish while only few had got realistic opinion according to nature conflict of opinions. However, in African history very rarely where we have one country to one country, or groups of countries to other groups of countries conflict, or war. Anyway, to keep it short, all I know this new issue title is know as game and I hope we play peacefully so that it won’t bring disaster upon us. Second we just have peace in our homeland Sudan which most of us know and of course we need to rest for while and get establish, we don’t need any kind of war in this land at this time please, or go and make it some where else, please.
    Have good day!
